Abstract Disaster, searching for the hidden voiceDisastershave been considered asphenomenonthat have changed the course of development, due to its effects and consequences on the populations of the world, where every day the numbers of dead, injured and homeless owed tonatural and/ or anthropogenic phenomenon increase. According to analysts, this may get worse because of global warming and other phenomena that have made humanity run into high levels of vulnerability, such as war sand poverty, in addition, the level of awareness of communities to handle adverse situations is low, combined with the absence of culture versus risk management. But numbers aren´t determinant to create consciousness in a society that through history has built a concept of disaster, where each one has a particular sense of phenomenon, some of them from personal experiences and others from consolidated images and experiences resulting from the media, besides not based theoretically knowledge but valuable from informed social understanding. The sense built and analyzed from speaking are determinant to create a new theory, where new voices that never have been heard have leadership by being immersed in endless statistics grouped by the percentages, without a true understanding of the particular, where suffering in many cases is historically framed as a percentage without analyzing. The professionals have accountability to disaster, because they are in charge of giving voice to the voiceless, for political and social circumstances, which often mask critical conditions that end up in disaster situations. To understand the reality of the disaster, a study develops purpose a hermeneutic historical study, titled "sense of disaster for students from the Autonomous University of Manizales" with a target population study of eleven students who are from different backgrounds in order to understand the disaster from several cultures and regions, assuming that the phenomena are not similar, so the experiences and meaning is different for each individual. This study shows that the perception of students varies from disasters both conceptually and in its meaning; their particular experiences have made for many situations that are every day, for theme disaster, because of multiple conditions that may be living in a given time, poverty, economic dependency, violence, displacement and climate change are situations that stand in the time and space to enter in the sense of people.
