Um aplicativo de segurança que aumente a privacidade de comunicações deve ter desempenho que garanta a sua usabilidade sem comprometer a reserva de recursos escassos, principalmente em dispositivos móveis. Dentre esses aplicativos, destacam-se aqueles, como o hashify, que manipulam ou geram animações a partir de hashes criptográficos. Este artigo apresenta a análise de desempenho do hashify, avaliando o tempo de geração de animações e consumo de memória e rede. Resultados preliminares obtidos com um dispositivo Android mostraram que a geração de imagens pelo software ocorre, em média, em 22,6ms, um tempo relativamente baixo e que mostra que ele pode vir a ser integrado em aplicativos móveis.
Comparar hashes é uma operação importante em segurança digital, porém tediosa e propensa a erros quando os hashes estão na forma de strings hexadecimais. Esse artigo apresenta um novo software de visualização de hashes com animações. O software, nomeado hashify, utiliza 4 caracteres e 4 ícones SVG para gerar animações de 2 segundos que transmitem por volta de 48 bits de uma sequência derivada do hash original. Ele foi implementado como uma biblioteca JavaScript e foi embutido em um protótipo de extensão do Firefox, que utiliza a biblioteca para mostrar uma estampa do certificado HTTPS utilizado em uma página web. A probabilidade de colisão e os resultados de uma pesquisa feita com usuários atestam a eficácia do hashify.
Sistemas seguros de votação eletrônica via Internet requerem comparação de dados em varias etapas do processo de votação. Alguns desses dados sao hashes, representados geralmente por strings. A comparação dessas strings por seres humanos tende a ser tediosa, o que faz com que a mesma nem sempre seja realizada corretamente. Este artigo relata resultados preliminares de um sistema de software que avança o estado da arte em votação eletrônica via Internet por meio da comparação de hashes representados por animações. A base do sistema são o software livre hashify, responsável pelas animações, e o software livre Helios, responsavel pelas votações. Resultados mostram que é possível comparar os hashes do Helios usando as animações do hashify.
Por motivos de segurança, é recomendável criar senhas longas, completamente desestruturadas, aleatórias e diferentes para cada uma das contas pessoais. Como consequência desses requisitos, algumas pessoas podem querer confirmar que digitaram a senha correta antes de submeterem um formulário de login. Para auxiliar nessa confirmação, muitos websites contam com a opção de visualizar a senha, o que torna a autenticação mais vulnerável a ataques de shoulder surfing. Este artigo apresenta a ferramenta HashifyPass, que permite que senhas de websites sejam confirmadas sem exibi-las. Para isso, é usada uma animação para a visualização do hash da senha. A integração do software em um formulário de login atesta sua eficácia.
