Con la finalidad de establecer la presencia de Staphylococcus saprophyticus causantes de Vaginosis Bacteriana fue necesario determinar su incidencia y los factores asociados a esta infección. Se realizó un estudio experimental de los pacientes con diagnóstico positivo en Vaginosis Bacteriana atendidos en el Laboratorio Clínico Solidario, del Cantón Machala. La población de estudio la conformaron los 82 pacientes que presentaron flujo vaginal anormal. El método que se empleó para el diagnóstico de VB fue el test de Amsel y el método automatizado con el equipo Vitek 2 Compact. El estudio se realizó en los meses agosto a septiembre de 2019. Se determinó que en los pacientes estudiados prima con un 100% la presencia de bacterias anaerobias facultativas, como el Staphylococcus saprophyticus. siendo el grupo más susceptible a tal contagio las mujeres en edad comprendida entre 12 a 59 años. Se encontró asociación de factores de riesgo de 1 pareja sexual en el año con el 43,8%, no usar condón en las relaciones sexuales con el 63,8%, y el aumento de flujo vaginal con mal olor causando ardor al orinar con el 97,5%. Se recomienda buenas prácticas de higiene en los genitales en las mujeres y el uso de los medicamentos de elección ante este tipo de infección se encontraron a la: vancomicina, levofloxacina y clindamicina, como fármacos de mayor eficacia ante este tipo de patógenos.
Uno de los problemas de salud que más afecta a la población es la infección urinaria, siendo los ancianos la población más vulnerable debido a que su sistema inmunitario se encuentra debilitado por el envejecimiento. Este trabajo tuvo como finalidad establecer la presencia de Escherichia coli y Klebsiella spp productoras de betalactamasas de espectro extendido causantes de infecciones urinarias en pacientes geriátricos del Cantón Machala, Ecuador. Mediante la recolección de 200 muestras de orina, durante el lapso enero-marzo 2019, de los pacientes en ayunas y en recipientes estériles determinando en los análisis microbiológicos urocultivos positivos. Los resultados demuestran que el bacilo E. coli es el agente primordial para tal infección con un 71,5 %, seguido por Klebsiella spp con un 28,5 %. Asimismo, el grupo más susceptible a tal contagio resultó el grupo de mujeres ancianas por factores de su anatomía y fisiología deteriorada por la edad y al mal uso de antibióticos o suspensión del tratamiento terapéutico, generando resistencia bacteriana y dando como resultado que esto se agrave y se tienda a usar antibióticos de amplio espectro. Se recomiendan buenas prácticas de higiene en los genitales en las personas de tercera edad y el uso correcto del antibiograma por parte del personal de salud, para minimizar la presencia de estos patógenos bacterianos.
