En Nicaragua el maíz (Zea mays L.) ocupa un lugar importante en la economía, siendo considerado el producto de mayor consumo en la alimentación humana. Con este estudio se pretende generar información necesaria acerca de nuevas fórmulas de fertilizantes (Nitro xtend y Fertimaíz) respondiendo a la problemática de los agricultores en sus bajos rendimientos. El trabajo de investigación fue realizado en el centro de experimentación y validación de tecnología (CEVT) Las Mercedes, ubicado en el km 11 Carretera Norte, Managua, Nicaragua y entre las coordenadas geográficas de 12°10’14” y 12°08’05” de latitud Norte y 86°10’22” y 86°09’44” de longitud Oeste a una altura de 56 msnm. Se realizó durante los meses de octubre 2015 a enero 2016. Los suelos de esta zona son derivados de cenizas volcánicas, de la serie Las Mercedes, de textura franco arcillosa. El objetivo fue comparar el efecto que tiene las fuentes de fertilizantes sintéticos y orgánicos sobre el crecimiento y rendimiento del cultivo de maíz. Se estableció en arreglo unifactorial en diseño de bloques completo al azar con cuatro repeticiones y tres tratamientos, distribuidos de la siguiente forma: el tratamiento uno corresponde a la apliación de fertilizante tradicional (12-30-10 más urea), el segundo tratamiento fue fertilizante especial (Fertimaiz y Nitro xtend) y el tercer tratamiento corresponde a un orgánico (humus de lombriz). La dimensión del ensayo fue de 410.8m2. Los datos fueron analizados con el programa INFOSTAT y los resultados indican diferencia significativa en la variable: diámetro del tallo (2.15 cm), altura de inserción de la espiga (225.08 cm), presentando el tratamiento tradicional los mejores resultados; las variables, altura de planta (215.43 m), numero de hojas (8.58), área foliar (604.06 cm2). Inserción de la espiga (129.77 cm), rendimiento (3 453.48 kg ha-1) los mejores resultados se reflejaron al fertilizar con Fertimaiz y Nitro Xtend
El presente estudio se realizó con el objetivo de identificar y describir los principales agentes causales de daño asociados al cultivo de marañón orgánico y convencional. Este estudio se realizó durante el período Julio 2009 a Marzo del 2010, en la comarca Chacraseca, del departamento de León. Mediante muestreos sistemáticos se evaluó la incidencia y severidad de estos agentes en el dosel delos árboles, para ello se seleccionaron cinco sitios fijos de muestreos en parcelas orgánicas y convencionales. Se colectaron muestras de hojas con signos y síntomas de posibles enfermedades, las muestras se llevaron al laboratorio de micología de la Universidad Nacional Agraria para su respectivo análisis patológico. Las variables evaluadas fueron: incidencia y severidad de manchas necróticas (Pestalotia sp) por ramas con hojas, Incidencia y severidad de manchas anaranjadas (Cephaleuros sp) por ramas con hojas, se midió el área bajo la curva de progreso de la enfermedad (ABCPE) de manchas necróticas y manchas anaranjadas. Los resultados fueron los siguientes: se identificó y se describió los síntomas de Pestalotiasp, y Cephaleurossp, estos resultaron ser los principales agentes causales de daño foliar en marañón, en este mismo estudio, se encontró mayor porcentaje de incidencia y severidad de manchas necróticas y manchas anaranjadas en parcelas con manejo orgánico que en parcelas con manejo convencional. La menor ABCPE para manchas necróticas se presentó en parcelas con manejo orgánico, y la menor ABCPE para manchas anaranjadas se presentó en parcelas con manejo convencional. RESUMENEl presente estudio se realizó durante el período julio 2009 a marzo del 2010, en la comarca Chacraseca, del departamento de León, El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar y describir la fluctuación poblacional y el rol de los principales insectos plagas y benéficos asociados al marañón orgánico y convencional. Para llevar a cabo este estudio se seleccionaron tres fincas orgánicas y tres fincas convencionales, en cada finca se seleccionó una parcela de 1 mz (0.7 ha), en cada parcela se seleccionaron cinco sitios fijos de muestreos, los muestreos se realizaron semanalmente a través de capturas manuales de insectos plagas e insectos benéficos del follaje. Los insectos colectados en el campo se llevaron al laboratorio de entomología de la Universidad Nacional Agraria para su respectiva identificación. Las variables evaluadas fueron: Número de insectos Homóptera, Heteróptera, Coleóptera, Neuróptera, Díptera, e Hymenóptera por familia. Los resultados fueron los siguientes: se encontró un mayor número de insectos plagas y benéficos en fincas de marañón orgánico que en convencional. Se identificó y se describió las fluctuaciones poblacionales de los insectos miembros de las familias: Coreidae, Cicadellidae, Tenebrionidae, Chrysomelidae, Apidae, Formicidae, Dolichopodidae, y Vespidae asociados a este cultivo, se encontró que las familias de insectos Cicadellidae, Tenebrionidae, Chrysomelidae, Coccinellidae y Formicidae se presentaron con más frecuencia durante la época de crecimiento vegetativo del cultivo, los insectos de la familia Dolichopodidae y Vespidae se presentaron con más frecuencia durante la época de floración del cultivo; y los insectos de la familia Coreidae y Apidae se presentaron con más frecuencia durante la época de fructificación del cultivo. El chinche patas de hoja (Leptoglossus zonatus Dallas) y la mosquita negra (Trigona silvestrianun,Vachal) han provocado severos problemas fitosanitarios y económicos para los productores de marañón (Anacardium occidentale L) en el occidente de Nicaragua (León y Chinandega). Estas plagas han provocado grandes e importantes pérdidas significativas en el rendimiento y calidad, además como resultado, se han aumentado los costos de producción en este cultivo. Ante la problemática existente en estas zonas y con el propósito de encontrar una solución al problema, se realizó un estudio en la comarca Chacraseca del departamento de León, en el periodo comprendido entre febrero 2009 a mayo 2010, con el objetivo de evaluar cuatro alternativas botánicas y una biológica para el manejo del chinche patas de hoja y la mosquita negra. Las alternativas evaluadas fueron: chile + ajo + jabón, cebolla + crisantemo, chile + ajo, Metarrhizium anisopliae, chile + jabón y un testigo (agua). Las variables evaluadas fueron: número de chinches por árbol y número de mosquita negra por árbol, también se evaluó el rendimiento en kg/ha a través de un análisis económico de presupuesto parcial. Para decidir el momento de aplicación de los productos se realizaron muestreos semanales tomando como nivel crítico un chinche o mosquita negra por árbol. Los resultados obtenidos en este estudio indican que el tratamiento chile + ajo + jabón fue el que presentó la menor fluctuación poblacional del chinche patas de hoja y mosquita negra, seguido por el tratamiento chile +ajo. El análisis económico basado en un presupuesto parcial determinó que el tratamiento chile + ajo + Jabón fue el que presentó los mejores rendimientos, los menores costos variables y el mayor beneficio neto, la tasa de retorno marginal resultó que en el tratamiento chile + jabón se obtiene por cada dólar invertido, una ganancia de 40 centavos de dólar. El uso de casas malla en la producción de tomate permite un aumento en los rendimientos y la calidad del fruto. El objetivo de este estudio fue generar información sobre el comportamiento agronómico de 12 cultivares de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum Mill) producidos en condiciones de casa malla, trabajo realizado en el Centro de Experimentación y Validación de Tecnología (CEVT) Las Mercedes, en la Universidad Nacional Agraria (UNA) en Managua, Nicaragua. Se utilizó un diseño experimental en Látice rectangular de 3x4 (tres réplicas y cuatro surcos) repetidos en dos bloques. Los datos se analizaron a través de un análisis de varianza y diferencia mínima significativa. Se registró la información de diez variables basadas en el comportamiento agronómico, siete cuantitativas (número de frutos, peso de fruto, rendimiento, número de lóculos, diámetro polar y ecuatorial, grados brix) y tres cualitativa (color e intensidad del fruto maduro y forma del fruto). Los resultados indican que los genotipos mostraron un comportamiento similar respecto a las variables: diámetro ecuatorial, diámetro polar, grados brix y número de lóculos. Los cultivares Shanty, CLN3125L, AVTO1032 y AVTO1059 registraron los mayores rendimientos. En base al análisis de comportamiento agronómico los genotipos promisorios más destacados para continuar con evaluaciones más exigente en condiciones de casa malla son: CLN3125L, AVTO1032, AVTO1059, AVTO1058, AVTO1078, AVTO1005, AVTO1008 y 1x10.
