Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) are a spectrum of conditions typically associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection after solid organ transplant. In the setting of post-transplant immunosuppression, EBV has the propensity to drive B-cell immortalization and proliferation, leading to hyperplasia and, rarely, lymphoma. 1 Children are particularly at risk for PTLD, as they are more likely to be EBV-naïve prior to transplant while receiving EBVpositive organs. 2,3 Additionally, they may acquire the virus in the
A group of medical students at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine noticed gaps in their curriculum pertaining to social determinants of health and community health advocacy. While other aspects of our curriculum allowed students to engage with clinical experience through continuity clinics and investigative research via independent research projects, no such avenue for direct engagement with advocacy existed formally in the preclinical curriculum. Students desire more learning outside of the classroom while interacting with the communities that they serve. 1
