The several disazo dyes having different alkyl substituents were synthesized to dye unmodified polypropylene fiber. The affinity of the dyes onto unmodified polypropylene was increased with the increase of the length of alkyl substituents. Therefore, the heptyl-substituted dye having the longest alkyl group in this experiment showed very high color strength of dyeings with K/S value of over 24 at maximum absorption wavelength. The color fastnesses to washing, rubbing and light were also improved significantly for the longer alkyl substituted dyes, so that the heptyl-substituted dye exhibited a rating of 4~5 for all kinds of fastnesses.
Abstract-In order to examine the availability of a heating process for persimmon dyeing, the cotton fabrics treated with various concentrations of persimmon extracts were heated at various temperatures and times. The raw and fermented persimmon extracts were used for the coloration. For both extracts, the color strength of fabrics was increased with the increase of coloration temperature, time, and concentration of the extracts. Considering the practical aspects and color strength, the temperature around 200℃ and the time longer than 60 minutes can be determined as the optimum coloration conditions of persimmon extracts onto cotton fabrics. However, somewhat loss of strength by the heating process seems to be inevitable. The color fastness to washing was excellent for both color change and staining showing a rating of 5.
-In order to introduce new functions onto textile fabrics, nylon and cotton were treated with green tea extracts. And then the anti-oxidant activity of fabrics treated with the extracts was evaluated by Blois method using DPPH (The anti-oxidant activity was exhibited on the textile fabrics treated as well as by the extracts itself. The cotton fabric treated with 10% o.w.f. of extract appeared to have almost 90% of anti-oxidant activity and 95% was obtained for nylon.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
