311ChemInform Abstract (I) reacts with (II) to yield a highly branched solid polysilazane of the general formula (III). The polymers with x = 1.0, y = 0.3-0.6, and z = 0.4-0.7 exhibit properties appropriate for melt spinning of 10-15 µm diameter fibers. These fibers are crosslinked on exposure to (I) and pyrolysis of the crosslinked fibers leads to amorphous ceramic fibers with up to 3.1 GPa tensile strength and 250 GPa elastic modulus.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
