A prótese dentária tem como objetivo a reabilitação oral de dentes ausentes, possibilitando o desempenho e manutenção de suas funções. A mucosa oral está exposta ao desenvolvimento de diversas patologias, tais como estomatites protéticas, queilite angular, hiperplasias inflamatórias e úlceras traumáticas. Muitas dessas podem estar associadas ao uso das próteses mal adaptadas ou não higienizadas pelo paciente, devido, principalmente, a uma orientação inadequada do dentista. O presente trabalho tem como propósito apresentar as lesões causadas por má adaptação das próteses totais e pela deficiência de higienização por parte do paciente, alertando os profissionais da área odontológica e os usuários de próteses totais sobre tais problemas futuros, por meio da revisão da literatura. Os artigos a serem usados neste trabalho foram aqueles disponíveis nas plataformas de dados online: SCIELO e Revodonto, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol selecionados no ano de publicação 2008 a 2018. Foram selecionados 25 artigos que se encaixaram nos critérios de inclusão e exclusão deste trabalho. Conclui-se que estas lesões podem ser evitadas com a correta confecção da Prótese Total, um ajuste adequado na cavidade, orientação de higienização e realização de controles periódicos com o objetivo de não comprometer a mucosa bucal e prejudicar a mastigação
A perda de um ou mais elemento dental reflete diretamente na vida de um indivíduo, desde dificuldade em se alimentar, vergonha e prejuízo ao relacionamento social, tornando-se peça fundamental no desenvolvimento de uma Odontologia mais conservadora e a mais reparadora possível. Nesse sentido, a reabilitação dental se liga direta ou indiretamente a estética, fazendo com que haja uma atenção aumentada, e aliada a esta, a função e o conforto são fatores que necessitam ser considerados para alcançar o sucesso de um tratamento. Na tentativa de buscar um equilíbrio neuromuscular do sistema estomatognático, a reabilitação de pacientes edêntulos por meio de próteses dentárias auxilia de modo que suas funções sejam recuperadas e que o bem-estar físico, mental e social do paciente seja alcançado. Dessa forma a construção de próteses individualizadas para cada paciente se torna peça chave no sucesso de um tratamento reparador. Assim, este trabalho tem por objetivo relatar um caso clínico no qual houve a confecção de próteses totais individualizadas à um caso particular de um indivíduo que apresentava mordida cruzada.
No âmbito da Odontologia, a condição de saúde bucal dos idosos tem revelado uma prática assistencial mutiladora, acarretando múltiplas exodontias e reabilitações protéticas totais. O uso da prótese total removível afeta os idosos nos aspectos emocionais e sociais, visto que a adaptação a prótese, carece da dedicação emocional e funcional. Neste contexto, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi analisar o nível de autopercepção de saúde bucal de 30 idosos de ambos os sexos que fazem uso de prótese total removível e os efeitos na qualidade de vida. Para execução da pesquisa utilizou-se o questionário Geriatric Orak Health Assessment Index), a autopercepção será classificada pela soma das respostas em ótima (34 a 36) pontos, regular (31 a 33) e ruim (≤ 30). O escore média do foi considerado baixo 26,42 que correspondeu 76,67% nos voluntários avaliados. Os resultados indicam que os idosos mesmo apresentando autopercepção baixa classificam a saúde bucal como satisfatória.
A mordida aberta anterior é um problema de oclusão de etiologia complexa e que ao longo do tempo foi sendo tratada devido a evolução e ao avanço dos tratamentos ortodônticos que acrescentaram de forma crucial a aplicabilidade do cuidado em muitas situações, mas para isso o ortodontista deve compreender cada situação em si, diagnosticar de forma correta e analisar as propriedades de cada tratamento para que os riscos e limitações sejam eliminados. E, neste sentido, este estudo objetiva fazer uma análise do tratamento de mordida aberta anterior (MAA), por meio de uma revisão de literatura. Para isso foi utilizado o método qualitativo, trazendo uma revisão de literatura abrangendo estudos das bases de dados do Scielo, Pubmed, Medline e Lilacs, sendo selecionados os estudos do idioma português e inglês entre os anos de 2010 a 2018. Diante disso, busca-se trazer um melhor entendimento sobre o assunto, trazendo um arcabouço teórico para profissionais da saúde sobre a situação exposta, destacando os tratamentos mais usados em pacientes com problemas de oclusão que podem ter resultados bastante satisfatórios.
Com avanço técnico-cientifico na Odontologia, ampliou-se a diversidade de fontes externas de luz e suas diferentes aplicações. Dessa forma, cresceu também a preocupação quanto ao uso desses equipamentos, uma vez que durante o seu emprego, o aumento da temperatura no interior da câmara pulpar pode ser causado, causando injúrias na polpa. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi descrever, por meio de uma revisão de literatura, a variação da temperatura no interior da câmara pulpar durante a utilização de fontes externas de luz, com ênfase nas fontes de luz de LED e Lasers. Dessa forma, foi realizada a busca bibliográfica nas bases de dados online: Google Acadêmico, SCIELO e PUBMED, utilizando os seguintes descritores: “Clareamento dental”; “Luz”; “Fotopolimerização”; “Temperatura”; “Odontologia”; “Laser”; “Polpa dentária”. Conclui-se que embora a literatura disponível mostre a eficácia quanto a utilização dessas fontes de luz, ainda é preciso ser feita novas análises com mais cautela para produção de evidências mais sólidas que condenem ou apoiem sua utilização.
