New arcid species belonging to the genera Paranadara gen. nov., Acar and Asperarca (new record) are described for the western Atlantic Ocean based on shell morphology. Paranadara taludae sp. nov., Acar naturezae sp nov., Acar oliveirae sp. nov. and Asperarca tarcylae sp. nov. were collected off north-eastern Brazil between depths of 70 and 690 m, whereas Acar lepidoformis sp. nov. was dredged off the State of Rio Grande do Sul (southern Brazil) at a depth of 141 m. There are no species along the Brazilian coast that are morphologically similar to Paranadara taludae sp. nov. Acar naturezae sp. nov., Acar lepidoformis and Acar Acar oliveirae sp. nov. are similar to this genus due to shape, ligament, presence of concentric lamellae cut by radial threads, a broad dorsal area and a markedly narrowed anterior region in comparison to the posterior region, which is strongly expanded. Asperarca tarcylae sp. nov. is similar to this genus due to the presence of a small edentulous region below the umbo and smooth inner margin.
Two new species of Aclis Lovén, 1846 are described from the continental slope of northeast Brazil. Aclis macrostoma n. sp. is recorded off the state of Rio Grande do Norte at depths ranging from 375 to 510 meters. Aclis watsoni n. sp. was dredged off the state of Sergipe at depths ranging from 365 to 510 meters. There are no similar species along the Brazilian coast. Aclis watsoni is similar to Aclis angulata Smith, 1890, Aclis trilineata Watson, 1897, Aclis supranitida (Wood, 1842) and Aclis ascaris (Turton, 1819) due to the presence of spiral keels and/or indication of a subsutural ramp. Aclis macrostoma is similar to Discaclis canariensis Moolenbeek & Warén, 1987, Aclis attenuans Jeffreys, 1883 and Aclis gulsonae (Clark, 1850) regarding its circular aperture and dilatation of the peristome, with a non-thickened outer lip. The latter two species are much more slender.

ABSTRACTThis study investigated and compared the patterns of shape and size of the shells of three species of the genus Nuculana Link, 1807. Nuculana acuta (Conrad, 1831), N. concentric (Say, 1824) and N. larranagai Klappenbach & Scarabino, 1968, collected in the continental shelf and slope in northeastern Brazil. A total of 30 valves of each species were used in the study. Through studies based on geometric morphometric was possible morphological comparisons using the method of superposition of anatomic landmarks. The canonical variate analysis showed differences conchologically in size and shape of species, corroborating the initial separation of the taxa in 74% of cases.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
