In this sense, the adoption of methods, which are able to identify different populations, is of paramount importance. The present study was conducted to identify the genetic divergence between cotton cultivars of white fiber and colored fibers, well as the importance of the characteristics to genetic diversity, through multivariate techniques. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block, spaced 1.25 m between rows and 0.25 between plants and five plants per plot. Collected data were analyzed by ANOVA and subsequently proceeded to the analysis of divergence by D 2 , Tocher and canonical variables. The most divergent cultivars, involving different groups, was between the BRS Verde and BRS Buriti, followed by BRS 293 and BRS. Smaller distances were obtained between cultivars of white fiber. The features reliability index, percentage of fibers, cottonseed weight and weight cotton lint were more important for the genetic divergence between the parents.
Vegetative propagation of acerola plant can be an advantage for a quick selection of superior clones. With the objective of evaluating acerola clones regarding their agronomic characteristics and antioxidant capacity of their fruit, an experiment was set up in a randomised-block design with 25 treatments consisting of three replicates with three plants per plot at the Experimental Station in ParaipabaCeará. For three years the following characteristics were evaluated: plant height, crown diameter and yield and as postharvest parameters of the fruit, enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants. The data shows the pattern of vertical growth displayed by the clones is resultant of a selection carried out with the progeny of two cycles. Among the studied clones, 23/2 (3), 79/10 (9) and 26/5 (4) presented good yield and vitamin C content and therefore, have potential for the industrial extraction of vitamin C, while 20/4 (8) has good yield and vegetative growth besides a high antioxidant enzymatic activity, thereby showing good potential for in natura market.
Genetic progress and early selection of juvenile physic nut genotypes ABSTRACT: Physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) is a euphorbia used in the production of biodiesel. The species has a narrow genetic base which the process of launching cultivars is difficult. Early characterization of the genotypes is an important step in crop breending. The aims of this study were to perform an early selection in morpho-agronomic traits, to predict the genetic progress of such traits and to indicate potential parents for progeny development. The experimental design used for the randomized blocks with 26 treatments and three replications. The morpho-agronomic traits were analyzed via mix models and the genetic progress added by direct, indirect selection and selection indexes. The genetic dissimilarity was provided by the Mahalanobis distance, with UPGMA hierarchical grouping and co-phenetic correlation coefficient acquired from 1,000 permutations. The indicators demonstrated genetic variability, with the identification of promising juvenile genotypes. The genotypes JCCE034, JCCE014 and JCCE103 show better genetic progress and the genotypes JCCE036 and JCCE86 show greater genetic divergences, forming individual clusters. J. curcas genotypes are promising in early selection and have satisfactory genetics gains for the traits. The genotypes have a good ability to compose groups of parents in targeted crosses, constituting base populations in the improvement of J. curcas. Keywords: Jatropha curcas; genetic diversity; selection gains; selection indexes.
