Most people suffer pain at some stage of their lives. Therefore, pain is the most common reason to seeking therapeutic alternative or conventional medicine. Pain management particularly in chronic pain due to postoperative is systematically have been developed by various great recommendations that assist the health care practitioner and patient in making decisions about health care. In recent years, we have developed a better understanding of the pathomechanisms that link inflammation and peripheral sensitization about pain which can be overcome through an alternative treatment. This approach is known as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The development of the combined health approach has lately been known as Integrative Medicine, which seeks to restore and maintain health by understanding a series of patients’ unique circumstances and overcoming their various physical, psychological, environmental, and spiritual influences. Through “whole system” treatment will be to elaborate an integrated approach, by dhikr, hijamah, and herbal medicine for facilitating the transition from viewing “pain” only as a matter of specific bodily functions (specific) to a more holistic view at the systemic level through integrative medicine to health care with a broader holistic approach.
Introduction: Affirmation - tapping interventions have been shown to reduce pain complaints in post-operative patients completing conventional treatment. This is thought to be due to serotonin performance but clinical studies have not been conducted. The aim was to compare the mean perception of the pain reported by post-operative patients given affirmation- tapping treatment with another treatment as a complementary nursing intervention. This was to see if the performance of the serotonin serum level is different from in other treatments. Methods: We used a randomized post-test only control group design carried out in parallel in post-caesarean section patients. The sample totaled 40 patients divided into four groups (10 in affirmation, 10 in tapping, 10 in affirmation-tapping and 10 in the control). They were obtained through simple random sampling. The instruments included affirmation-tapping guidelines, Elisa kits and the McGill - Melzack Pain Questionnaire short-form (MPQsf). The independent variable was the intervention of affirmation-tapping and the dependent variables were pain perception and serotonin level. The data was analyzed using simple linear regression. Results: The average variant of the serotonin levels in the affirmation-tapping treatment group was higher and thus differed significantly from the other groups. Conclusion: Affirmation-tapping as a complementary nursing intervention can increase the serotonin serum levels of the post-caesarean section patients by complementing conventional treatments. Participant pain complaints were lowest in the affirmation-tapping group with the highest serotonin levels present and these were significantly different to the other groups. Affirmation – tapping was recommended as a complementary intervention in nursing post-operative patients that complements conventional treatment.
Introduction: Positive self affirmation is one of the psychological interventions that can be applied to the treatment of coronary heart disease; its effect is currently unknown. The purpose of this study was to prove the effect of self affirmation on anxiety, troponin I and LDH in coronary heart disease patients. Methods: The type and design of the study was quasi-experimental with a non-randomized post-test control group design. Thirty patients with coronary heart disease who were treated in the Camelia room of Dr Soetomo Hospital who had been selected were divided into 2 groups. The first group was given self affirmation twice / day for 20 minutes and the second group had standard care as the control group. After the intervention, anxiety measurements were taken, in addition to the measurement of troponin I and LDH.Results: The results showed that self affirmation reduced anxiety (ρ = 0.03), decreased troponin I (ρ = 0.003) and decreased the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels (ρ = 0.006).Conclusion: Self-affirmation improves the client’s emotions, preventing damage to the heart muscle cells. This is reflected by a decrease in the troponin I and LDH levels which are indicators of heart muscle damage.
Background: Impaired coping mechanisms often occur in women with breast cancer. The purpose of this study is to determine the description of coping mechanisms in women with breast cancer who undergo chemorepy, radiation or both. Methods: The population in this study were women with breast cancer who underwent chemotherapy, radiation or both. Sampling was done by random sampling where the number of samples is 70. Taking data using the COPE Brief instrument.Result: Four indicators in the destructive category were acceptance (54.3%), denial (61.4%), emotional support (52.9%) and positive reframing (67.1%) while three indicators were mostly in the constructive category, namely self blame (60%), active (64.3) %), and Behavioral disengagement (72.9%).Conclusion: Four destructive indicators indicate poor avoidance and positive thinking in breast cancer patients, while 3 constructive indicators describe good problem solving. Assessment based on this indicator can be taken into consideration in the selection of appropriate interventions to improve coping mechanisms in breast cancer patients.
