Occupational stress is an important issue not only for the researchers but also for the employees and managers at work. This study aims to determine the effects of occupational stress on job satisfaction, intention to leave and absenteeism. A sample of 100 employees in the Companies Commission of Malaysia, a statutory body regulating companies and businesses was recruited to participate in the study. A questionnaire was used to collect information on demographics, stress, job satisfaction, intention to leave and absenteeism. Pearson correlation and Multiple Linear Regression was used to examine the relationships between different variables. The results show that occupational stress does not have a direct effect on the intention to leave and absenteeism. In contrast, occupational stress has a direct negative effect on job satisfaction. Furthermore, job satisfaction has negative effects on the intention to leave and absenteeism. In conclusion, the authors recommend the following to management: (a) increasing job satisfaction by reducing employee occupational stress, and (b) that by reducing stress, the organization can reduce the levels of intention to leave and absenteeism among employees. Contribution/ Originality: The study contributes to the existing literature regarding the effect of occupational stress on job satisfaction, intention to leave and absenteeism, particularly in Malaysia. The present study highlighted the importance of reducing occupational stress with the aim to minimize employees' intention to leave and absenteeism and increase their job satisfaction.
This conceptual paper emphasizes roles and responsibilities of parents towards children particularly teenagers. Currently, Malaysia shows an increasing of teenagers’ involvement in social problems. The increasing of social problem is believed due to lack of roles and responsibilities played by parents especially for dual-career families. Besides that other problem contributed to the increasing of social problems was less communication between parents and children. Therefore, this paper also emphasizes the role of communication in effort to build a good and harmoniousrelationship between parents and teenagers and outlines the roles and responsibilities of parents towards children and families.
Long-distance marriages are commonly performed by dual-career couples particularly teachers. This study aimed to measure the relationship between trust and commitment with maintenance of marriage among teachers who living in commuter marriages. This study was conducted on 110 teachers around Kota Kinabalu Sabah from secondary and primary schools. The research design was a quantitative study using a set of questionnaires to get feedback from respondents. The Dyadic Trust Scale (DTS) (Larzelere & Huston, 1981), The Investment Model Scale (IMS) (Rusbult, Martz & Agnew, 1998), Relationship Maintenance Scale (RMS) (Chonody, Killian, Gabb & Dunk-West, 2017) were used to measure the variables involved.The results showed that trust and commitment are positively related to marriage maintenance. The implications of this study are for teachers to acknowledge that trust and commitment play an important role in their marriage.
Money does matter especially in the family life and it affects marital satisfaction and marital stability. The purposes of this study are to examine the relationship between financial strain and financial management practices, and marital satisfaction and marital stability. 278 married individuals were involved in this study who was within 5 years of marriage. The In-Charge Financial Distress/Financial Well-Being (IFDFW) Scale, Financial Management Behavior Scale (FMBS), Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale (KMSS) and Marital Instability Index (MII) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation. The findings showed that there was significant relationship among financial strain, financial management practices, marital satisfaction, marital stability, financial management practices and marital satisfaction. Therefore, it can be concluded that financial does play an important role in satisfaction and stability of marriage. Learning a foreign language enables learners to go further after graduation. In today’s world, there is a need for students to be able to communicate in at least one foreign language so that they can function well globally. This study investigates learning the German language among engineering students who are taking a dual degree program in a public university in east coast Malaysia. The objectives of the study were: (a) to determine the students’ attitude in learning German language; (b) gauge their understanding of the course in terms of materials and lessons used in learning the language; and (c) identify their motivation and performances taking German language. Using a descriptive research design, 60 students were involved as respondents in this study. Their responses to the researchers’ questionnaire were gathered in a WhatsApp group called Success German Course (SGC). The results of the study indicated that students demonstrated moderate attitude in learning the course since some of them were eager to learn the language while others were not. Some students reported failing to understand the course in the use of the current materials and lessons. Although they showed positive attitude in learning the course, their performances, nevertheless, were not encouraging because they did not have sufficient time to learn the language.
