As doenças cardiovasculares são responsáveis por grande número de óbitos tod os os anos, muitas delas de origem aterosclerótica caracterizada pela formação de placas de ateroma na parede das artérias. A Punica granatum L. é um a rica fonte de compostos bioativos com ação em patologias de origem cardiovascular. Sua atividade antioxid ante e antiaterogênica são responsáveis pela ação terapêutica na prevenção e tratamento desse distúrbio. Dessa forma, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo descrever os benefícios da utilização da romã no combate à aterosclerose e as vias farmacológicas por meio das quais é desenvolvido o tratamento. Se trata de uma revisão bibliográfica do tipo integrativa realizada nas bases de dados da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde- BVS e PubMed, utilizando os descritores Punica granatum L., romã e aterosclerose em português, inglês e espanhol e combinados entre si por meio do operador boleano “AND”. Os resultados evidenciaram a resposta positiva da romã frente a d oenças cardiovasculares como demonstrado nas pesquisas utilizadas nesta revisão. Concluindo que o consumo da romã contribui para prevenção e redução de placas ateroscleróticas já instaladas.
