No Brasil, o manejo extensivo de fauna só se tornou possível nos anos 2000, com a publicação do Sistema Nacional de Unidades de Conservação (SNUC). Foi iniciado em 2003 um projeto de estruturação de manejo comunitário de jacarés no estado do Amazonas, oficialmente implementado com fins comerciais em 2020. O objetivo desse trabalho é caracterizar o modelo de análise do manejo comunitário de jacarés no Amazonas, propondo-o como modelo para análise de sistemas de manejo comunitário de outras espécies silvestres. Foi realizada uma análise documental da legislação referente ao manejo comunitário de jacarés, de onde então foram identificados os requisitos técnicos para desenvolvimento do manejo. Para cada requisito foram descritas as atividades referentes ao seu atendimento. Essas etapas foram ordenadas de acordo com sua inserção num modelo de Sistemas Agroalimentares (SAG). Os requisitos do manejo são atendidos a partir da realização de oito atividades ou serviços técnico-científicos básicos, cada uma diretamente relacionada a um ou mais segmentos da cadeia produtiva. O manejo de jacarés apresenta um conjunto significativo de requisitos atendidos por meio de pesquisa científica, além de compartilhamento de funções de gestão e potencial produtivo predeterminado pela cota de captura permitida. A infraestrutura precária para processamento, armazenamento e transporte configura o principal limitante da produção em unidades de conservação. Os requisitos para o manejo de jacarés são baseados nos princípios básicos de sustentabilidade, e deverão estar presentes de modo similar em normas para uso de outras espécies. Assim, a análise em SAG pode ser aplicável para manejo comunitário de outras espécies, pois inclui elementos normativos, atores participantes e meio ambiente, com igual importância à eficiência produtiva e econômica.
