Histological study showed similar healing pattern with both the types of bone graft materials with maturing bone at 3 months and advanced osteogenesis at six months in experimental intraosseous periodontal defects in dogs. However, histological evaluation for longer period is necessary to determine the time taken for complete replacement of the bone graft materials with new bone.
Aberrant frenum causes a problem of midline diastema which leads to unaesthetic smile for the patient. Orthodontic correction of midline diastema helps to create aesthetic smile but frenum attachment may interfere it. The labial frenectomy is the procedure performed to remove aberrant frenum attachment. This article presents two case reports of maxillary labial frenectomy by using conventional technique and Laser.
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the self-perception of oral malodour and oral hygiene habits among dental students in Ernakulam district of Kerala. Materials and Methods: A structured and validated questionnaire comprising of ten questions was distributed to 787 students of five dental colleges in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. The questionnaire evaluated the self-perception of halitosis, the oral hygiene practices among them and the presence of gingival bleeding, dental caries and dryness of mouth. Results: The dental students here included 678 females and 109 males. Self-perceived halitosis was reported by 46(42.2%) male students and 221(32.6%) female students showing a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) between both genders in reporting self-perceived halitosis. Conclusion: The results reveal a higher prevalence of self-perceived halitosis among males compared to females in this sample. The knowledge about halitosis and related factors was also greater among this sample of dental students. Clinical significance: The findings of our study highlight the fact that the regular removal of tongue coating and use of interdental aids along with regular oral hygiene measures can significantly reduce halitosis in an otherwise healthy individual.
Telemedicine is the delivery of healthcare services, where distance is a basic factor, by all medical care experts utilizing information and communication technologies for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and infirmities. Telecommunications are used in doctor-patient interactions in telemedicine. It is a new way of delivering healthcare services across geographical boundaries, and it's being utilised to make healthcare services more accessible to those who don't have access to such services in their residential areas. The study was done to assess awareness and acceptance of teleconsultation among public. A total of 200 samples were selected for this study from Vaikom Taluk in Kottayam district. Convenient sampling procedure was used for this method. People who contacted doctors for their treatment during COVID-19 were included in the study. The participants were briefed about the study and informed consent was obtained from them. The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions. The questions were asked to assess awareness and acceptance of teleconsultation.The study concluded that most of the participants are aware about teleconsultation and accepted this technology as treatment procedure.
