Sun2mary.-Posterior cortex ablations, sham ablations, and enucleations were performed on 65-day-old Ss reared from 1 0 days of age. A combination of 2 enriched and 2 impoverished conditions were used. These conditions were (1) proximal impoverishment (normal lab-cage), ( 2 ) distal impoverishment (enucleation at 1 0 days), (3) proximal enrichment (large special cage), and ( 4 ) distal enrichment (use of vision until 65 days of age). All testing was done post-operatively. Proximal enrichment positively enhanced maze learning and tacmal discrimination. Distal impoverishment increased running time on the tactual maze. Ablations of posterior cortex interfered with maze learning (Lashley 111) but not tactual discrimination. Even though an hypothesis of the plasticity of posterior cortex function suggests the likelihood of interactions of early experience variables, none were found.
A source of error in lithium determinations from commonly used chemically hardened glassware is described. This contaminating source may contribute up to a thirty-fold error, depending on the levels being analyzed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
