INDUSTRIAL AND ENGINEERING CHEMISTRYare compared with those of Yakovkin (1, 7), it is found that Yakovkin obtained constants 25 to 100 per cent greater. The explanation for this discrepancy is not immediately apparent, except that the calculation of the hydrolysis constant from equilibrium solubility is extremely sensitive, and small discrepancies in the solubility result in wide variations in the calculated value of the constant. The values of the hydrolysis constants as calculated here are estimated to be accurate to 25 per cent.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
