Introducción: El accidente cerebrovascular comprende un grupo de trastornos que tienen en común la limitación del flujo sanguíneo a nivel cerebral. La mayoría de casos son de tipo isquémico y se dan por una disminución global o parcial del flujo sanguíneo. Es una patología que causa significativa morbilidad y mortalidad en la población adulta y pediátrica en todo el mundo. Las enfermedades cerebrales vasculares se encuentran dentro de las diez primeras causas de muerte en menores de edad, siendo más alta la probabilidad de morir para los menores de un año. Objetivo: Documentar y actualizar información que permita identificar las patologías asociadas a accidente cerebrovascular del tipo isquémico en menores de 10 años de edad. Método: Se realizó una revisión de información referente al accidente cerebrovascular de tipo isquémico en niños menores de 10 años de edad en Medline/Pubmed, Elseiver y Scielo. Se analizaron los artículos publicados entre los años 2000 y 2017, se tuvo en cuenta los artículos en idioma español e inglés. Desarrollo: el accidente cerebrovascular tipo isquémico en los menores de 10 años se presenta como complicación de una variedad de patologías que pueden ser adquiridas e infecciosas, pero se tiene presente que gran número de las patologías presentan un componente genético/hereditario. Conclusiones: El personal médico debe saber identificar dentro de las patologías de la población menor de 10 años aquellas que entre sus complicaciones pueden conllevar a un accidente cerebrovascular isquémico.
