Les auteurs explorent les stratégies de lecture translinguistiques qu’ont déployées 16 élèves de troisième et de quatrième années scolarisés en immersion française en Saskatchewan alors qu’ils lisaient des livres de jeunesse bilingues. Les livres retenus présentent une structure différente ; dans le premier, le même texte apparaît en français et en anglais, tandis que, dans le second, le français et l’anglais sont intégrés de telle sorte que les passages écrits dans une langue ne sont pas des traductions de passages écrits dans l’autre langue. Les participants ont lu des extraits de chacun des deux livres et ont été invités à verbaliser leurs processus cognitifs au moment de lire ; ils ont aussi pris part à un entretien rétrospectif centré sur leur utilisation des stratégies de lecture. L’analyse des auteurs, de type inductif modéré, a permis de faire émerger quatre stratégies de lecture translinguistiques : le recours à des passages équivalents dans l’autre langue, le recours aux congénères, le recours au contexte offert dans l’autre langue et la reconnaissance de caractéristiques liées à la structure du livre. Elle leur a également permis de comprendre comment ces stratégies sont employées en fonction de chaque type de livres. Les auteurs discutent des résultats à la lumière des différences entre la structure des deux livres et de considérations pédagogiques relatives à la littérature jeunesse bilingue en immersion française.
À partir de données provenant d’un questionnaire et d’une entrevue, cet article explore la motivation en grammaire de huit élèves de la fin de l’élémentaire en milieu minoritaire et la met en relation avec le développement de leur compétence à effectuer l’accord du verbe à l’écrit. Les résultats nous permettent de poser des hypothèses viables sur la relation entre la motivation en grammaire et le développement de ladite compétence. Ils révèlent aussi que, pour les élèves, le travail grammatical est fréquemment associé à la mémorisation de formes linguistiques et que celle-ci ne contribue pas à leur motivation.
La présente recherche explore le développement de la compétence linguistique qui permet l’accord du verbe en nombre à l’écrit chez huit élèves scolarisés en français dans le sud-ouest de l’Ontario, un milieu francophone minoritaire. Grâce à une conceptualisation qui unit les travaux de chercheurs en langues première et seconde, et à l’analyse des données issues d’une activité de complètement et de productions écrites, nous avons fait émerger trois profils développementaux : le premier groupe de scripteurs fait montre d’une compétence opérationnelle en début d’étude, celle-ci demeurant relativement stable au gré des 13 mois de la recherche. Le deuxième groupe peine à orthographier la marque prototypique de la pluralité verbale au commencement de l’étude et exerce, du début à la fin, un contrôle orthographique lacunaire pour ce qui est de l’objet linguistique retenu. Le dernier groupe, analogue au regroupement précédent en début d’étude, présente un développement rapide au cours de la recherche. Nous discutons les résultats en fonction des recherches menées en langues première et seconde, et mettons l’accent sur les spécificités qui sous-tendent l’apprentissage du français écrit en situation de minorité linguistique.
La grammaire est une discipline qui est ancrée dans la tradition scolaire francophone et dont l’enseignement, parce qu’on lui reconnait une fonction normative assumée, peut contribuer à la reproduction de certaines inégalités à l’école. Au regard de cet état de fait, le présent article veut, dans un premier temps, mettre en évidence la pertinence didactique que revêtent les réseaux littéraires pour l’enseignement de la grammaire du français (langue d’enseignement ou seconde) en contexte plurilingue. Ainsi exposerons-nous les fondements théoriques qui concourent à l’utilisation de ces réseaux et verrons-nous comment on peut les mettre en oeuvre afin de valoriser et de mettre à profit le répertoire linguistique pluriel des élèves. Dans un second temps, il s’agira d’exemplifier notre propos en présentant trois modalités de réseaux littéraires, ceux-ci, s’ils sont élaborés en considérant les plurilinguismes qui caractérisent de nos jours les salles de classe, pouvant soutenir le développement de la compétence grammaticale des élèves.
