Human-mediated species invasions are recognized as a leading cause of global biotic homogenization and extinction. Studies on colonization events since early stages, establishment of new populations and range extension are scarce because of their rarity, difficult detection and monitoring. Chromis limbata is a reefassociated and non-migratory marine fish from the family Pomacentridae found in depths ranging between 3 and 45 m. The original distribution of the species encompassed exclusively the eastern Atlantic, including the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands. It is also commonly reported from West Africa between Senegal and Pointe Noire, Congo. In 2008, vagrant individuals of C. limbata were recorded off the east coast of Santa Catarina Island, South Brazil (27 41 0 44 00 S, 48 27 0 53 00 W). This study evaluated the increasing densities of C. limbata populations in Santa Catarina State shoreline. Two recent expansions, northwards to São Paulo State and southwards to Rio Grande do Sul State, are discussed, and a niche model of maximum entropy (MaxEnt) was performed to evaluate suitable C. limbata habitats. Brazilian populations are established and significantly increasing in most sites where the species has been detected. The distributional boundaries predicted by the model are clearly wider than their known range of occurrence, evidencing environmental suitability in both hemispheres from areas where the species still does not occur. Resumo Tendo em vista as mais diferentes aplicações para os drones atualmente, o projeto consiste na sua utilização para fins de monitoramento de áreas em reflorestamento e para utilização como ferramenta para captura de informações ambientais. Por meio do desenvolvimento de uma estação meterológica móvel, os dados coletados foram modelados em softwares a fim de compor gráficos correspondentes a possíveis alterações micro-climáticas de florestas urbanas.

Age, growth and maturity of frigate tuna (Auxis thazard) were studied for the first time in Southeast Brazil. A total of 650 fish (265–494 mm Fork Length) were sampled from beach-seine landings between March 2018 and February 2019. Sectioned fin spines from 548 specimens were processed and age was determined by counting and measuring of increments. Growth parameters were fitted to length-at-age data using the von Bertalanffy growth function and were compared to the literature using the growth performance index (Phi). Macro and microscopic characterization of gonads and physiological indexes were used for the analysis of the reproductive cycle. The length distribution did not differ by sex. Assigned ages were between 0+ and 4 years, with annual increments formed during winter. Coefficient of variation between readings was 11%. Growth differed by sex, and the von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L∞ = 471 mm; k = 0.47 year−1; and t0 = –1.46 year−1 for females; L∞ = 498 mm; k = 0.35 year−1; and t0 = –2.01 year−1 for males. Phi was 5.0 for both sexes. Estimated growth rate is among the lowest recorded for the species, possibly related to the method used for age and growth assessment. Gonadosomatic index peaked in December, associated with the upwelling of the South Atlantic Central Waters, at a temperature of approximately 16 °C. Spawning activity in colder waters has never been reported for this species and may be influenced by a richer habitat caused by the intrusion of more nutritive rich waters during spring-summer, which allows larval development. Length-at-first-maturity (L50) was 345.4 mm for females and 329.8 mm for males.

O projeto consiste em desenvolver um método mais eficaz e barato para monitorar processos de reflorestamento em áreas urbanas com o uso de drone e de miniestações meteorológicas terrestres. O estudo se baseia em coletar dados ambientais periodicamente, assim, analisando se há progressos em relação ao reflorestamento ou não, sendo possível detectar falhas em tal procedimento de uma maneira mais eficiente.

RESUMOO psilídeo-de-concha, Glycaspis brimblecombei, é considerado praga quarentenária de elevada importância econômica para o setor florestal no Brasil pela preferência a Eucaliptus camaldulensis -espécie mais plantada no país. A insuficiência de métodos químicos, aceitáveis pelas empresas certificadas internacionalmente, para o controle da praga vem tornando a estratégia de controle biológico pelo parasitóide Psyllaephagus bliteus a opção mais apropriada no momento. Por esta razão, a disponibilidade de métodos que ajudem a detectar fases de desenvolvimento da praga mais apropriadas ao parasitismo é de grande importância tanto para a identificação precisa do seu ciclo de vida quanto à proposição de estratégias de seu controle biológico. O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar faixas de tamanhos de concha de G. brimblecombei, de modo a utilizá-las como padrão de referencia para um método inédito de estimativas de estádios ninfais de desenvolvimento da praga em função do seu respectivo tamanho de concha amostrado. Essas faixas (ou classes de tamanhos) foram obtidas através de minucioso trabalho entomológico realizado em laboratório, onde os diâmetros das conchas e seus respectivos insetos foram medidos com auxílio de lupa e avaliados quanto aos estádios de desenvolvimento. Posteriormente, foram realizadas análises estatísticas e de tendências. As seguintes classes de tamanhos de concha foram determinadas como resultado: Ninfa 1 -de 0,7 mm a 0,9 mm; Ninfa 2 -de 0,8mm a 1,1 mm; Ninfa 3 -de 1,1 mm a 1,7 mm; Ninfa 4 -de 1,6 mm a 2,2 mm;e Ninfa 5 -de 2,2 mm a 2,8 mm. ABSTRACTThe red-gum lerp psyllid is considered a pest in Brazil, whose preference for Eucalyptus camaldulensis -a species of high economic importance-has caused great concern to the national forest sector. The lack of pesticides acceptable by internationally certified companies to control the pest turns the strategy of biological control by the parasitoid Psyllaephagus bliteus the most appropriate option. Thus, the availability of methods which could help to identify the plague developmental phases preferable for the parasitoid, have great importance both for the correct description of its life cycle, as well as, for proposals applied to its biological control strategies. The main objective of the present work was to identify the shell size ranges of Glycaspis brimblecombei in order to use them as a reference pattern for a new method, which intends to estimate the nymphal stages based on their respective shell size sampled.
