La zona norte del estado de Veracruz cuenta con una gran diversidad de especies vegetales, la mayoría de las cuales son endémicas de esta zona. Este trabajo contempla el estudio fitoquímico de 30 plantas de esta región, las cuales los habitantes de esta zona les han atribuido fuertes propiedades medicinales a lo largo del tiempo, para esto se probaron extractos etanólicos de estas plantas contra distintos tipos de bacterias patógenas al ser humano, con el fin de evaluar su actividad antimicrobiana. Este análisis se realizo en 3 partes, una de difusión (cualitativa) y dos de dilución (cuantitativa), en la primera parte se utilizó la prueba de difusión en disco, en la cual se realizó un tamizaje inicial acerca de cuáles extractos poseen o no actividad antimicrobiana contra 6 bacterianas de importancia sanitaria (Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomona aeruginosa, Bacillus Megaterium, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus y Staphylococcus epidermidis), utilizando como control un antibiótico de amplio espectro (cloranfenicol). En la segunda parte, se utilizó la prueba de dilución en microplaca, en la cual se utilizaron placas de teflón con pocillos perforados, en las cuales se les añadieron diluciones seriadas de los extractos etanólicos de las plantas que presentaron inhibición en la prueba anterior, esto con el fin de obtener la Concentración Mínima Inhibitoria (CMI) de los extractos evaluados, así como también descartar la presencia de falsos positivos en las muestras. En la parte final, se utilizó la técnica de dilución en tubo, en la cual se realizaron cinéticas de crecimiento microbiano utilizaron las CMI de los extractos etanólicos obtenidos en la prueba anterior, con el fin de observar el efecto de estos en el crecimiento bacteriano (bacteriostático). De estas pruebas se obtuvieron 3 plantas (Picramnia antidesma, Hampea Nutricia y Gouania Lupuloides) las cuales presentaron actividad bacteriostática frente a las bacterias evaluadas.
