Ante los escasos estudios existentes en este campo, el presente trabajo desarrolla un análisis de los nuevos productos de fotoperiodismo narrativo en prensa digital, sus componentes y aspectos sustantivos, centrado en los diarios digitales Folha de Sao Paulo y The Guardian. La muestra consta de 35 piezas con un total de 899 fotografías, de las cuales 351 (39,1%) corresponden a Folha de Sao Paulo y 548 (60,9%) a The Guardian. Apoyándose en la metodología del Análisis de contenido, se emplea una ficha de diseño propio, con indicadores poco contemplados en trabajos sobre fotografía, como diseño estructural, funcionalidad o integración de contenidos multimedia. Los resultados indican que estos productos presentan formatos y configuraciones diferentes, poseen una estructura clara, extensión media-alta y están dotados de funcionalidades sencillas. La buena jerarquización, variedad, gran tamaño y calidad de las imágenes otorga un alto impacto visual. Los elementos textuales complementan y aclaran el sentido lógico del relato. La incorporación de contenidos audiovisuales y links es discreta, pero bien contextualizada. Todo ello supone un notable avance estético-comunicativo respecto a los modos convencionales de tratamiento de la fotografía en la prensa digital.
Se examina mediante un análisis de contenido la representación fotográfica de la crisis de los refugiados sirios en Europa central, acaecida entre mediados de 2015 y los primeros meses de 2016. El objetivo básico es identificar y clasificar los componentes denotativos y connotativos presentes en las fotografías, como documentos informativos visuales de especial incidencia en el framing visual. Interesa el tratamiento de los dos aspectos fundamentales para la fijación de marcos perceptivos: el contexto físico y el contexto humano, así como sus efectos cognitivo-afectivos. Sobre una muestra de 196 fotografías procedentes de 13 medios de prensa digital internacionales, se aplica una ficha de codificación original, que proporciona datos significativos. Los resultados caracterizan la representación iconográfica del hecho, marcando la preponderancia de lugares y escenarios de tránsito, ámbitos rurales y episodios de naturaleza estresante, pero sin excesiva carga dramática. Se enfatiza el aspecto grupal o colectivo sobre el individual, con clara mayoría de actores masculinos, jóvenes o de mediana edad, En general, los personajes expresan una actitud más pasiva que activa, con acciones moderadas o estatismo físico. La gestualidad no siempre se muestra explícitamente, pero en gran medida trasmite naturalidad, aunque también son relevantes los sentimientos negativos. Se exhibe una imagen de cercanía solidaria con los refugiados, neutra de los cuerpos de seguridad y positiva de los cooperantes. Las conclusiones indican que la visión general del acontecimiento es realista, carente de tintes violentos o dramáticos, pero sin ocultar la dureza propia de la situación. No se detectan estereotipos retóricos en cuanto a la forma en que se exhiben las acciones y personajes.
