A atividade leiteira desempenha função relevante no contexto econômico e social do Brasil. Desta forma, a pesagem dos animais é de fundamental importância para tomada de decisões, sendo a fita torácica um meio indireto e prático para aferição do peso. Objetivou-se com o estudo, analisar a correlação entre o perímetro torácico e o peso vivo de animais Girolando, comparar diferentes métodos de pesagem utilizados atualmente e confeccionar uma fita de peso exclusiva para animais Girolando. Utilizou-se 411 animais Girolando entre machos e fêmeas, de várias faixas etárias e graus de sangue, pesados em balança digital calibrada (PBAL), mensurou-se perímetro torácico (PTOR), altura da garupa (AGAR) e da cernelha (AGIB), comprimento da garupa (CGAR), comprimento corporal (CCOR), largura entre íleos (LILE) e largura entre ísquios (LISQ) dos animais através de trena adaptada. Observou-se uma correlação alta e favorável entre o peso corporal e a circunferência torácica, que o erro médio das aferições de peso feitas com a fita da girolando é muito elevado, sendo necessário diminuir este erro através de um novo modelo e o fracionamento em intervalos. A fita de peso IFTM apresentou o melhor resultando por possuir o menor erro absoluto entre os métodos avaliados e se mostra a melhor opção para predição de peso. Desta forma, foi proposta uma nova fita para mensuração de peso de animais da Raça Girolando.
