RESUMOO feijão-caupi é uma planta caracterizada pela adaptabilidade, sendo cultivado em diversas regiões do mundo, inclusive em regiões áridas e semiáridas, estando sujeito a condições de estresse como a salinidade. Dada a importância do feijão-caupi esse trabalho objetivou investigar os efeitos da salinidade na condutância estomática e seu reflexo no consumo de água e no acumulo de biomassa pela planta. Sendo assim, foi então realizado um experimento em casa de vegetação com a cultivar de feijão-caupi IPA 206 em Neossolo flúvico. O experimento foi realizado na Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, coordenadas 08º 00' 59,9'' S e 34º 56' 38,6'' W, durante os meses de março a maio de 2014. Foram utilizadas águas com seis níveis de condutividade elétrica (CE) (0; 2,5; 5,0; 7,5; 10,0 e 12,5 dS m -1 ), formuladas a partir de NaCl e de uma mistura de sais, semelhante a composição das águas de poços encontrados na região de coleta do solo (Pesqueira -PE). O experimento foi conduzido em blocos casualizados em fatorial 6x2, com 3 repetições. A salinidade da água de irrigação não afetou a condutância estomática aos 10 dias após o plantio (DAP). Aos 20 e 24 DAP ocorreu diminuição da condutância estomática com o aumento da CE da água de irrigação havendo diferença significativa entre as composições de água usadas. A diminuição da condutância estomática provocou diminuição da evapotranspiração da cultura e também da massa específica foliar. A suculência foliar sofreu acréscimos com o aumento da CE da água de irrigação.Palavras-chave: estresse abiótico, salinidade, Vigna unguiculata.
