Fungal pathologies caused by the genus Candida have increased in recent years due to the involvement of immunosuppressed people and the advance of resistance mechanisms acquired by these microorganisms. Liposomes are nanovesicles with lipid bilayers in which they store compounds. α-Bisabolol is a sesquiterpene with proven biological activities, and in this work it was tested alone in liposomes and in association with Fluconazole in vitro to evaluate the antifungal potential, Fluconazole optimization, and virulence inhibitory effect in vitro. Antifungal assays were performed against standard strains of Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Candida krusei by microdilution to identify the IC50 values and to obtain the cell viability. The Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) was performed by subculturing on the solid medium, and at their subinhibitory concentration (Matrix Concentration (MC): 16,384 µg/mL) (MC/16), the compounds, both isolated and liposomal, were associated with fluconazole in order to verify the inhibitory effect of this junction. Tests to ascertain changes in morphology were performed in microculture chambers according to MC concentrations. Liposomes were characterized from the vesicle size, polydispersity index, average Zeta potential, and scanning electron microscopy. The IC50 value of the liposomal bisabolol associated with fluconazole (FCZ) was 2.5 µg/mL against all strains tested, revealing a potentiating effect. Liposomal bisabolol was able to potentiate the effect of fluconazole against the CA and CT strains by reducing its concentration and completely inhibiting fungal growth. α-Bisabolol in liposomal form inhibited the morphological transition in all strains tested at a concentration of MC/8. The liposomes were homogeneous, with vesicles with diameters of 203.8 nm for the liposomal bisabolol and a surface charge potential of −34.2 mV, conferring stability to the nanosystem. Through scanning microscopy, the spherical shapes of the vesicles were observed.
Objective: To elucidate through a systematic literature review the impact sperm DNA fragmentation has on embryos from assisted reproduction techniques. Data Source: Studies from the "PubMed", "Embase", and "BVS" databases were analyzed. Studies Selection: The articles selected in the review included: cohort and case-control studies that addressed the proposed theme, published between January 1, 2017, and January 31, 2022, in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. As inclusion criteria: cohort and case-control articles. As exclusion criteria: articles outside the scope of the research, review articles, case reports, articles using animal models, abstracts, letters to the editor, and articles found duplicates in the databases. Data Collection: Number of couples or cycles; age (men/ women); collection type; DNA damage (%); assisted reproduction activity and techniques. Data Synthesis: In in vitro fertilization, a reduction in fertilization rate, blastocyst rate, and embryo quality was observed. In addition to implantation and increased abortion rates in patients with high sperm DNA fragmentation. High rates of sperm DNA fragmentation in intracytoplasmic sperm injection led to reduced blastocyst production rate, embryo quality, implantation, and live birth rate, and in intrauterine insemination, a reduction in pregnancy rate. Conclusion: Sperm DNA fragmentation was a potential limiting factor for assisted reproduction techniques.

Descrição do caso: M.S.S., 83 anos, sexo feminino, da cidade de Juazeiro do Norte/CE, solteira, aposentada por idade, nulípara, diabética e portadora de Alzheimer.Após sentir uma forte dor na mama e muita cefaleia, foi levada ao médico mastologista para uma consulta. Ao ser examinada, o médico diagnosticou um nódulo na mama direita, em seguida, pediu uma mamografia e um ultrassom mamário com urgência. Ao olhar os exames, o médico constatou que a mesma tinha um nódulo na mama direita, tipo BI-RADS seis, e a partir do resultado, pediu mais alguns exames laboratoriais, como: hemograma completo, citologia e Ultrassonografia de Abdome Total -UAT. Conclusão: De acordo com as análises dos trabalhos supracitados é visto que há necessidade de critérios bem mais específicos, como exames marcadores laboratoriais mais rápidos e precisos para o câncer de mama. Uma força tarefa das políticas públicas brasileiras para o combate ao câncer que acomete milhares de mulheres no Brasil, um sistema de saúde mais unificado e com qualidade representaria uma diminuição da incidência de câncer de mama em estágios avançados. Case description: M.S.S., 83 years old, female, from the city of Juazeiro do Norte / CE, single, retired by age, nulliparous, diabetic and Alzheimer's. After feeling a severe pain in the breast and a lot of headache, it was taken to the doctor mastologist for a consultation. Upon examination, the doctor diagnosed a lump in the right breast, then requested a mammogram and a breast ultrasound urgently. When looking at the exams, the doctor found that it had a nodule on the right breast, type BI-RADS six, and from the result, asked for some laboratory tests, such as: complete blood count, cytology and a total abdominal ultrasound. Conclusion: According to the analysis of the aforementioned studies it is seen that there is a need for much more specific criteria, such as faster and more accurate laboratory markers for breast cancer. Resumo A aplicação de lipossomas para a administração controlada de fármacos tem tido um grande impacto em muitas áreas biomédicas. Verificou-se que eles são benéficos para a estabilização de compostos terapêuticos, superação de obstáculos à absorção celular e de tecidos e melhoria da biodistribuição de compostos para locais-alvo in vivo. Essa prospecção teve como objetivo analisar as patentes que tratam da utilização de lipossomas como veículos de drug delivery. A busca foi realizada nos bancos de dados do INPI e do EPO.
