Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common chronic dermatitis in children. The influence of AD on quality of life of parents of children with AD was studied using the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI). Fifty children with AD were included in the study (age range 2-24 months) together with their parents. Children's AD was found to influence the quality of life of both parents; however, it had a more significant influence on quality of life of mothers than that of fathers (mean FDLQI: 17.1 ± 5.3 vs. 14.7 ± 5.8 points; p < 0.001). Due to the children's AD, mothers spent more time caring for them and carried out more household duties. Childhood AD had a greater impact on quality of life of fathers through influence on their work or education. The influence of AD on the quality of life of family members is significant, and this should be taken into account in the therapeutic process.
Background. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is an important cause of upper and lower respiratory tract infections. cough and tracheobronchitis are the commonest features of M. pneumoniae infection but diagnosis based on clinical symptoms that may be due to other respiratory pathogens is impossible. Thus laboratory testing for M. pneumoniae is particularly important. correct and rapid diagnosis of M. pneumoniae infections is of prime importance to introduce appropriate antibiotic treatment. Objectives. evaluation of the incidence of IgM and IgG antibodies specific to M. pneumoniae among children with pneumonia and/or chronic cough. Material and Methods. Serum samples from 148 children with a history of chronic cough (lasting at least one month), recurrent respiratory tract infections, allergic rhinitis, and/or inflammatory changes on X-chest ray. first, all sera were screened for specific anti-M. pneumoniae antibodies using agglutination test following the detection of specific IgM and IgG anti-M. pneumoniae antibodies using immunoenzymatic assays. Results. Out of the 148 serum samples, 57 (38.5%) gave positive screening results. However, the presence of M. pneumoniae-specific IgM and/or IgG antibodies was confirmed by immunoenzymatic assays in only 30 (52.6%) of these 57 positive samples. These results indicated that in as many as 27 (47.4%) out of the 57 serum samples screened, false-positive results occurred. Conclusions. evaluation of acute-and convalescent-phase sera is necessary to make possible accurate interpretation of the serological testing results (Adv Clin Exp Med 2014, 23, 2, 185-190).
Ultrathin L10 FePt films with different c-axis orientations relative to the film plane are promising candidates for data storage materials. In this work, within the framework of density functional theory, we calculated the magnetic properties of ultrathin L10 FePt (111) and (010) films with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 16 atomic monolayers (from about 0.8 to 3.5 nm). The highest average magnetic moments are observed for the thinnest films considered, and with increasing film thickness, the values converge towards the magnetic moment for bulk. The observed increase comes mainly from enhanced moments in the two atomic monolayers closest to the surface of the films. The easy axis of magnetization of (111) films prefers an alignment close to the tetragonal axis, an example of tilted magnetic anisotropy. The 6-monolayer ( 111) film (about 1.3 nm thick) inclines the easy axis of magnetization of about 45°to the film plane, which can find use in applications. The (010) films show an in-plane easy magnetization axis in a unique L10 tetragonal direction. This is an unusual type of in-plane anisotropy, as the particular direction preference is very strong. The computational results encourage further experimental studies of L10 systems with tilted and in-plane fixed magnetic anisotropy.
