Camphorquinone (1), an important fine chemical and medicinal product derived from camphor, was efficiently synthesized from easily available camphoric acid (2). The key steps include acyloin condensation using Me 3 SiCl as a scavenger of alkoxides and oxidation of the bis(trimethylsilyl) derivative 4 by bromine in CCl 4 . The new method offers an efficient alternative synthesis of camphorquinone (1).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
