The work was focused on problematics of annual-rings width according to position within the tree stem. Annual-ring widths, ratio of late wood and early wood by spruce with compression wood were investigated. Statistically significant differencies of individual zones in tree were occured. Zone of compression wood showed bigger width of annual-rings, common occurence of late wood and higher percentual ratio of late wood. Obtained results agree with common results in literature. Variability of annual-ring width according to position within the tree stem was confirmed. Width of annual-ring was changed mainly according to radius of stem. In height position within the stem no more significant variability of annual-ring width was observed.spruce, annual-ring, width of annual-ring, compression wood Často je zapomínáno, že stavba dřeva (a to na všech úrovních, tj. makroskopické, mikroskopické, submikroskopické) a chemické složení významně ovlivňují výsledné vlastnosti dřeva. Vysvětlení fyzikálního a mechanického chování dřeva není možné bez dokonalé znalosti dřeva.
HOLAN, J., MERENDA, L.: Selected mechanical properties of modifi ed beech wood. Acta univ. agric. et silvic. Mendel. Brun., 2008, LVI, No. 1, pp. 245-250 This thesis deals with an examination of mechanical properties of ammonia treated beach wood with a trademark Lignamon. For determination mechanical properties were used procedures especially based on ČSN. From the results is noticeable increased density of wood by 22% in comparison with untreated beach wood, which makes considerable increase of the most mechanical wood properties. Considering failure strength was raised by 32% and modulus of elasticity was raised at average about 46%.Fagus sylvatica L., ammonia, wood modifi cation, density, mechanical properties, plasticizing, Lignamon Dřevo je nejstarší biologický materiál, který lidstvo dosud používá. Výběr vhodného materiálu a specifi cké postupy modifikace materiálových vlastností zapříčiní vznik materiálu s nově modifi kovanými mechanickými vlastnostmi dřeva.Nejlepších výsledků konkrétní chemické modifi kace a následného zpracování vykazuje dřevo bukové. MATERIÁL A METODIKAZkušební vzorky byly zhotoveny z bukového dřeva (Fagus sylvatica L.) o rozměrech 50×80×500 mm. Speciálně ortotropní zkušební hranolky pravoúh-lého průřezu byly plastifi kovány čpavkem a ná-sledně stlačeny o 30 % kolmo na průběh vláken v tangenciálním směru.
This work focus on comparison of biological degradation of wood caused by wood-decay fungi (white and brown rot). Test samples were made of European Beech Fagus sylvatica (L.). As wood-decay fungi were used Trametes versicolor (L.) Lloyd (white rot) and Serpula lacrymans (Wulf. Ex Fr.) Schroet (brown rot). Aim of this work was comparison of rate of propagation of wood-decay fungus and degradation of wood in time. After termination of the test was made comparison of intensity of degradation between both fungi species. Weights of test samples were diminishing for both groups of wood-decay fungi during three months. Moisture content increased in direct proportion with time. Compression strength in direction of wood fibers of tested samples was diminishing. Samples tested by Serpula lacrymans had the fastest decrease of compression strength after first and second week of degradation. Samples tested by Trametes versicolor had different course. Compression strength significantly decreased after first month and third month of degradation. On the other hand module of elasticity of both tested groups was diminishing already during first and second week of degradation. Generally, it is possible to say that Trametes versicolor has more significant impact on changes of mechanical characteristic of wood, because it causes degradation of all chemical constituents of wood.
The paper presents the resisitance of wood against a pilot flame. The fire has negative effect on the wood and its properties. The fire and its high temperature cause a degradation of chemical components of wood. Hence the physical properties are changed and strength of the wood is decreased. The combustion velocity and the loss weight depend on the material's thickness. For tests have been chosen groups of samples with thickness of 5, 10, 15 and 20 mm. The result of submitted work is a time estimation of the fire penetration and an observation of weight losses coupled with visual changes observation of degraded samples. It have been established that with an action of the pilot flame the needed time to fire penetration is rising with rising material's thickness and at the same time the cumbustion velocity is decreasing.
