Effective and practical parking space detection significantly contribute to parking information management in the field of intelligent transportation system. Therefore, efforts are needed to develop devices to detect whether parking spaces occupied accurately and transmit data collected to parking database in real-time. In this study, devices composed of master and slave nodes based on controller area network bus are developed. Following a review on previous studies, the concept of the devices is proposed. According to the design and implementation of the devices, a comprehensive illustration on how the devices work is presented. Pilot testing experiments confirmed that the devices provide efficient and reliable parking space detection and information transmission.
