Although much research has been done on the relationship between leader-member exchange (LMX) and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), little attention has been paid to the mechanism underpinning the relationship. Based on a sample of 214 supervisor-subordinate dyads from indigenous family business in China, this paper examines the mechanism by which LMX affects OCB, especially the mediating role of perceived insider status and the moderating role of Chinese traditionality. Structural equation modeling results show that: (1) LMX is positively related to OCB, and (2) perceived insider status fully mediates the relationship between LMX and OCB. Hierarchical regression results further reveal that Chinese traditionality moderates the effect of LMX on perceived insider status.
An extensive body of research has investigated the role of syntactic complexity in gauging the linguistic complexity of reading texts, particularly for the purpose of determining their grade appropriateness. However, little such research has focused on adapted teaching materials for English as a foreign language (EFL) contexts, and to date there has been no systematic effort in establishing syntactic complexity benchmarks to guide text adaptation practices in such contexts. This paper reports on a large‐scale study that assessed the quantitative differences in syntactic complexity among adapted teaching materials for different grade levels in the EFL curricula in China. Our data consisted of 3,368 adapted English texts solicited from a corpus of teaching materials approved for use in the 12 primary and secondary grade levels in China by the Chinese Ministry of Education. All texts were analyzed using 8 syntactic complexity measures representing different dimensions of syntactic complexity. All 8 measures showed significant between‐level differences with moderate to large effect sizes and nonuniform patterns of progression, and 5 measures were identified as significant predictors of grade levels in a logistic regression analysis. The implications of our results for establishing syntactic complexity benchmarks to inform future text adaptation practices are discussed.
This study investigated categorization of perfectionism subtypes for Chinese undergraduates and the effects of perfectionism subtypes on career outcomes based on two prominent, competing models of perfectionism, the tripartite model and 2 × 2 model. Indices of career outcome were defined with career adaptability (positive) and career decision-making difficulties (negative). The results of both cluster analysis and latent profile analysis coincided with the four-subtype structure of the 2 × 2 model. The result of Bolck–Croon–Hagenaars modeling indicated that the pure high standard subtypes were the most functional while pure discrepancy subtypes were most dysfunctional. Mixed perfectionism subtypes were identified as having high career adaptability but also high risk for career decision-making while nonperfectionism subtypes possess low career decision-making difficulties but also low career adaptability. Based on these findings for perfectionism subtypes, we extrapolate practical recommendations for how this information could be pertinent to career counseling.
