Overinflation of cardiac stomach occurred in farmed sterlet sturgeon (Acipenser ruthenus) fingerlings. Affected fish congregated and swam upside-down near the edges of the tanks with abdominal distension. When pressed the dilated abdomen, the fish often exhibited a normal swimming pattern for some time, then resumed their characteristic upside-down swimming patterns. Internally, the fish showed abdominal dropsy and dilated stomach filled with yellowish granular contents. When the contents in the stomach, fish feed, water and excrement in the farm inoculated on Sabouraud destrose agar (SDA) at 25℃ for 48 hr. Candida sp. were isolated except from the feed. Candida sp. in excrement or water in the farm may enter into the stomach with feed and then produce gases in the metabolic process, which in turn may cause the stomach overinflation.
The mud loach, Misgurnus mizolepis (Cobitidae, Cypriniformes), is a freshwater fish that is widely distributed throughout streams, ditches, reservoirs, and rice paddy fields, preferably with a soft muddy bottom, in Korea, Japan, and China (1).Aeromonas sobria has been isolated from human blood, feces, and wounds (2, 3, 4), and from wild-spawning gizzard shad, Dorosoma
Due to the shortage of the fingerling/juvenile mud loach, Misgurnus mizolepis in Korea, these fish have been imported from China. However, the mortality rate during and after their transportation is very high. In this study, we examined various physiological and histological parameters to evaluate the effect of salt treatment on the survival and recovery of mud loaches in holding farms during the quarantine process. Glucose, osmolality, Na− , and histological changes were assessed for three different salinities. Non-treated fish (control 0.0%) exhibited lower levels of osmolality, and Na + and Cl − concentrations compared with those kept in solar salt solution (0.5% and 1.0%). Glucose levels in control fish were higher than those in fish exposed to 0.5% and 1.0% solar salt solution. Histologically, control fish showed thinner epidermis of skin, branchial hyperplasia and lamellar fusion with an abundance of eosinophilic granule cell-like cells. After solar salt solution treatment, damaged gill structures in the fish almost recovered within 5 days. The present study demonstrates that mud loaches transported from China suffer from skin and gill damage and physiological dysfunction which may increase the mortality and morbidity. Moreover, saline treatment might alleviate the stress responses and ionic/osmotic imbalances, and help heal gill damage.
Histopathological observations on a epidermal papilloma of wild red halibut (Hippogossoides dubius) caught at the area around Echung Island and Gogunsan Islands were done. The papilloma formed on the dorsal fin was the same color with the body on the ocular side but black on the non-ocular side. Under light microscopy, the tumor on the skin was very similar to epithelial papilloma supported by connective tissue. X-cell-like cells in the tumors were large and eosinophilic with a centrally-located, large nucleus. But the characteristic large nucleolus in the nucleus of the x-like cells was indistinct clear in this specimen because about 6-9 hours have passed after catching the fish and autolysis have occurred.
ZOR(zeroth order resonance) antenna for 2.45GHz WLAN(wireless local area network) is designed by use of CRLH-TL(composite right left handed transmission line) meta-material. The electrical length of conventional antennas is determined generally according to the resonant frequency, whereas that of ZOR antenna can be determined without reference to the resonant frequency. Therefore ZOR antenna has advantage in miniaturization of antenna in comparison with conventional antennas. In order to design such ZOR antenna, first unit cell with electrical length shorter than a quarter wavelength at 2.45GHz is designed to the some characteristics of homogeneous medium. In order to decrease resonant frequency and enhance frequency bandwidth, the proposed antenna is fed by CPW(co-planar waveguide) and short stub between radiation patch and ground plane is used for obtaining both higher inductance and smaller capacitance than previous mushroom type of CRLH-TL.
