In order to improve low combustion efficiency of typical incinerators like a stoker type, a new unique cyclone combustor, three-way swirling combustion (TSC), is being introduced through a commercial scale pilot plant experiment for refused plastic fuel (RPF). TSC provides air curtain insulation, substituting the refractory brick and lowering the generation of flying ash, for clinker prevention at the boiler. Its excellent emission measurement has also been reported. Through the study of three-dimensionless numbers (swirl number, Strouhal number, and Reynolds number) and previous researches conducted on cyclone combustors, their design criteria—geometrical and operational parameters—has been identified and suggested for future designs.
The importance of fire safety services has increased expanding its services into prevention of danger and the reinforcement of safety services. The purpose of this study is to suggest a way for effective safety service by surveying fire fighters and residents of Gyeonggi Province and examining theories of safety services and actual status of 119 safety units. This study suggests the use of social capital by local community, establishment of cooperation between organizations, supports by citizens, cooperative activities by organizations, difference between emergency report and non emergency report and social safety net role of safety fire services.
The purpose of this study was to provide an operational model of the rehabilitation room for fire officers at disaster sites to improve the safety and resilience of fire officers. Therefore, we analyzed the operation related elements of the rehabilitation room-such as overseas rehabilitation room operation cases and previous studies— and managed different factors including, but not limited to, management and human resources, equipment and facility, and accessibility and convenience factors; afterward, the relative importance and importance of sub-layers in each field were measured. The priority of items for the operation of the rehabilitation room for fire officers at disaster sites was elucidated; after expert analysis, it was found that human resources were the most crucial factor. Finally, it was found that, in descending order, accessibility and convenience, administrative, equipment, and facility factors were also essential. Based on this, we proposed a rehabilitation room operation guideline for disaster sites.
This study analyzed the various methods of and reasons for committing suicide among 90 firefighters within a 10 year period (2010-2019). The study discovered that: the suicide rate per 100,000 people has gradually decreased in the general public and police, while the number of suicides among firefighters continues to increase; the suicide rate arranged in increasing order by province, was Gyeonggi < Seoul < Jeonnam < Gyeongbuk < Busan whereas the suicide rate in terms of the number of staff followed the order of Jeonnam < Ulsan < Chungbuk < Gyeonggi < Seoul; the highest suicide rates were found among firefighters in the Sobangjang (fire sergeant) position, who were in their 40s, and who had served fewer than 10 years; the reasons for committing suicide were family discord, depression, hopelessness, debt, and job stress in that order; those in their 20s and 50s committed suicide due to depression while family discord appeared to be the cause for those in their 30s and 40s. To prevent firefighters from committing suicide, we need to initiate a dedicated psychological counseling organization, run a firefighters’ suicide prevention program at the fire academy, and strengthen the psychological autopsy for firefighters’ suicide and statistics management, etc.
Existing verification research for how effectively the educational training of new fire officers has been applied to actual fieldwork is extremely insignificant. This is because only a few studies have empirically verified job implementation according to job satisfaction, which is believed to have a great influence on various aspects such as learner traits, educational programs, and learning outcomes. Moreover, it is necessary to conduct an empirical investigation regarding the effects of learner traits, educational programs, and learning outcomes on disaster scenes and the job implementation of fire administration on new fire officers. This study aims to provide an empirical analysis of the effects of educational training of new fire officers on job implementation. It has been identified that learner traits and learning outcomes have an effect on job satisfaction. Accordingly, job satisfaction, educational programs, learning outcomes, and learner traits have a significant effect (P < 0.05) on job implementation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
