La formación de traductores se ha fundado tradicionalmente sobre la base de competencias, lo que ha permitido que el aprendizaje tanto teórico como práctico satisfaga las demandas de los contextos ocupacionales. Entonces, si las competencias son parte de la formación de traductores ¿por qué resulta tan difícil que los estudiantes logren la integración del aprendizaje de diversas áreas y materias al momento de enfrentar un proyecto real de traducción? Parte de la explicación a este problema radica en que, en el contexto nacional chileno, los programas de formación de pregrado actuales no exigen un estándar mínimo de manejo en la segunda lengua de trabajo, lo que genera un distanciamiento importante entre la teoría y la práctica, al no poder traducir desde primer año de estudios; esto, a su vez, acarrea, la presentación disociada de contenidos. En respuesta a lo planteado, se revisaron dos metodologías de trabajo en el aula: el enfoque por tareas y el aprendizaje basado en proyectos, con el fin de evaluar su pertinencia para la integración de los componentes de la competencia traductora. Finalmente, se presenta una propuesta didáctica para transitar en el aula desde el aprendizaje por tareas al aprendizaje basado en proyectos.
Partiendo de la idea de que la comprensión lectora es un requisito esencial para el ejercicio de la traducción y de que, en la práctica, la mayoría de los estudiantes de traducción no la abordan cabalmente, en este artículo se presenta un recorrido por las distintas propuestas de definición de la competencia traductora, con el fin de constatar la presencia y, por ende, la importancia de la comprensión lectora; asimismo, se abordan las características del lector-traductor para dar cuenta de sus particularidades respecto del lector común. Conforme a esta revisión, se presenta una serie de actividades didácticas, organizadas sobre la base de los objetivos de aprendizaje para la comprensión de textos planteados por Brehm y Hurtado (1999), que permiten al aprendiz-traductor lograr la comprensión necesaria que requiere el ejercicio de la traducción.
