Micro-stepping motion of ultrasonic motors satisfies biomedical applications, such as cell operation and nuclear magnetic resonance, which require a precise compact-structure non-magnetization positioning device. When the pulse number is relatively small, the stopping characteristics have a non-negligible effect on the entire stepwise process. However, few studies have been conducted to show the rule of the open-loop stepwise motion, especially the shutdown stage. In this study, the modal differences of the shutdown stage are found connected with amplitude and velocity at the turn-off instant. Changes of the length in the contact area and driving zone as well as the input currents, vibration states, output torque, and axial pressure are derived by a simulation model to further explore the rules. The speed curves and vibration results in functions of different pulse numbers are compared, and the stepwise motion can be described by a two-stage two-order transfer function. A test workbench based on the Field Programmable Gate Array is built for acquiring the speed, currents, and feedback voltages of the startup-shutdown stage accurately with the help of its excellent synchronization performances. Therefore, stator vibration, rotor velocity, and terminal displacements under different pulse numbers can be compared. Moreover, the two-stage two-order model is identified on the stepwise speed curves, and the fitness over 85% between the simulation and test verifies the model availability. Finally, with the optimization of the pulse number, the motor achieves 3.3 µrad in clockwise and counterclockwise direction.
This paper investigates the pre-pressure’s influence on the key performance of a traveling wave ultrasonic motor (TRUM) using simulations and experimental tests. An analytical model accompanied with power dissipation is built, and an electric cylinder is first adopted in regulating the pre-pressure rapidly, flexibly and accurately. Both results provide several new features for exploring the function of pre-pressure. It turns out that the proportion of driving zone within the contact region declines as the pre-pressure increases, while a lower power dissipation and slower temperature rise can be achieved when the driving zones and the braking zones are in balance. Moreover, the shrinking speed fluctuations with the increasing pre-pressures are verified by the periodic-varying axial pressure. Finally, stalling torque, maximum efficiency, temperature rise and speed variance are all integrated to form a novel optimization criterion, which achieves a slower temperature rise and lower stationary error between 260 and 320 N. The practical speed control errors demonstrate that the proportion of residual error declines from 2.88% to 0.75% when the pre-pressure is changed from 150 to 300 N, which serves as one of the pieces of evidence of the criterion’s effectiveness.
In order to improve the state monitoring and adaptive control capability of inertial stabilization platforms (ISPs) with unknown loads, it is necessary to estimate the dynamic parameters comprehensively online. However, most current online estimation methods regard the system as a linear dual-inertia model which neglects the backlash and nonlinear friction torque. It reduces the accuracy of the model and leads to incomplete and low accuracy of the estimated parameters. The purpose of this research is to achieve a comprehensive and accurate online estimation of multiple parameters of ISPs and lay a foundation for state monitoring and adaptive control of ISPs. First, a dual-inertia model containing backlash and nonlinear friction torque of the motor and load is established. Then, the auto-regressive moving average (ARMA) model of the motor and load is established by the forward Euler method, which clearly expresses the online identification formula of the parameters. On this basis, the adaptive identification method based on the recursive extended least squares (RELS) algorithm is used to realize the online estimation of multiple parameters. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed adaptive multi-parameter estimation method can realize the simultaneous online identification of the moment of inertia of the load, the damping coefficient of motor and load, the transmission stiffness, the Coulomb friction torque of motor and load, and the backlash, and the steady-state error is less than 10%. Compared with the traditional linear dual-inertia model, the similarity between the model based on the proposed adaptive parameter estimation algorithm and the actual system is increased by 65.3%.
This study presents a compound control algorithm that enhances the servo accuracy and disturbance suppression capability of direct drive components (DDCs). The servo performance of DDCs is easily affected by external disturbance and the deterioration of assembly characteristics due to a lack of deceleration device. The purpose of this study is to compensate for the impact of external and internal disturbances on the system. First, a linear state space model of the system is established. Second, we analyzed the main factors restricting the performance of DDCs which includes sensor noise, friction and external disturbance. Then, a fractional-order proportional integral (FOPI) controller was used to eliminate the steady-state error caused by the time-invariable disturbance which can also improve the system’s anti-interference capability. A state-augmented Kalman filter (SAKF) was proposed to suppress the quantization noise and compensate for the time-varying disturbances simultaneously. The effectiveness of the proposed compound algorithm was demonstrated by comparative experiments, demonstrating a maximum 89.34% improvement. The experimental results show that, compared with the traditional PI controller, the FOPISAKF controller can not only improve the tracking accuracy of the system, but also enhance the disturbance suppression ability.
Precise cable drive is a light, concise and efficient spatial friction flexible transmission mode, which has the characteristics of flexible layout, lightweight and miniaturization. It is a good choice for Acquiring tracking and pointing applications (ATPs). But the cable drive mechanism (CDM) is easy to cause large-scale speed oscillation in the process of performing tasks as cable compliance. This paper focused on the mechanical resonance in a practical full-closed loop positioning control system. A dynamic model with the electro-mechanical and rigid-flexible coupling characteristics is proposed, which is capable to analyze the global influence factors on speed oscillation. The parametric sensitivities have been conducted to investigate the effects of design parameters on mechanical resonance.
The dual-motor precision transmission mechanism (DMPTM) is an alternative way to eliminate backlash while ensuring the stiffness of the servo system. However, most of the established models of DMPTM are not accurate enough, and are not conducive to the optimization of system performance and the design of high-precision controllers. In this paper, based on the detailed linear model of the single components of the DMPTM, the dead-zone model, considering the time-varying stiffness, is proposed to describe the backlash of the two transmission chains, and the friction of the mechanism is depicted by the Stribeck model. Then, a high-precision dynamic model of the DMPTM is formed. Finally, the model validation experiments for the open-loop and closed-loop are carried out in the time domain and frequency domain. The experimental results show that the proposed model can accurately describe the nonlinear characteristics of the mechanism. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the proposed model and the actual system is ropen-loop > 99.41%, for the open-loop, and rclosed-loop > 83.7%, for the closed-loop, and these results are both better than those of the existing model. In the frequency domain, whether it is the open-loop or closed-loop model, the frequency response of the proposed model also reproduces the actual system well, which verifies the accuracy of the model.
The synchronization control performance of the Fieldbus control system (FCS) is an important guarantee for the completion of multi-axis collaborative machining tasks, and its synchronization control accuracy is one of the decisive factors for the machining quality. To improve the synchronization control accuracy of FCS, this paper first makes a comprehensive analysis of the factors affecting synchronization in FCS. Secondly, by analyzing the communication model of linear Ethernet, a distributed clock compensation method based on timestamps is proposed to solve the asynchronous problem of communication data transmission in the linear ethernet bus topology. Then, based on the CANopen application layer protocol, the FCS communication and device control task collaboration method is proposed to ensure the synchronous control of multiple devices by FCS. Finally, an experimental platform is built for functional verification and performance testing of the proposed synchronization method. The results show that the proposed synchronization method can achieve a communication synchronization accuracy of 50 ns and a device control synchronization accuracy of 150 ns.
