BackgroundThe emergence, resurgence and spread of human food-borne pathogenic Vibrios are one of the major contributors to disease burden and mortality particularly in developing countries with disputable sanitary conditions. Previous research on pathogenic Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolitycus derived from clinical samples has proposed links between acquisition of virulence and multiple drug resistance traits and intercellular transmissibility of mobile genetic elements in the environment. To date, very few information is available on environmental Vibrio isolates. In this study, we characterized eleven Vibrio strains bearing the SXT/R391-like integrative and conjugative elements (ICEs) derived from aquatic products and environment in the Yangtze River Estuary, China.ResultsThe eleven Vibrio strains were isolated in 2010 to 2011, and taxonomically identified, which included six Vibrio cholerae, three Vibrio parahaemolyticus, one Vibrio alginolyticus and one Vibrio natriegens. Most of the strains displayed strong resistance phenotypes to ampicillin, mercury and chromium. The majority of their ICEs, which belong to S and R exclusion system groups, contain ICEs-chromosome junction sequences and highly conserved core-genes required for ICE transfer. However, comparative sequence analysis uncovered interesting diversity in their mosaic accessory gene structures, which carry many novel genes that have not been described in any known ICEs to date. In addition, antibiotic resistance was transmitted by ICEVchChn6 and ICEVpaChn1 from V. cholerae, V. parahaemolyticus to E. coli MG1655 via conjugation, respectively. Our data also revealed that the ICEs characterized in this study are phylogenetically distant from most of the SXT/R391 ICEs reported previously, which may represent a novel cluster likely shaped by the ecological environment in the Yangtze River Estuary, China.ConclusionsThis study constitutes the first investigation of ICEs-positive Vibrio spp. in the Yangze River Estuary, China. The newly identified ICEs were characterized with mosaic accessory gene structures and many novel genes. The results demonstrated self-transmissibility of antibiotic resistance mediated by two of the ICEs from V. cholerae, V. parahaemolyticus to E. coli via conjugation, respectively. Our results also revealed that the ICEs examined in this study may represent a novel cluster in the SXT/R391 family.

Rational design and controllable synthesis of multiple metal components according to chemical composition and morphology are essential for obtaining desirable electrochemical performance for efficient hydrogen production because of the morphology and synergistic effects of different components. Herein, we report an approach to facilely fabricate bimetal compounds with a well-defined hollow nanoprism structure using a self-templated strategy to synthesize novel hierarchical NiCo-layered double hydroxide (NiCo-LDH) nanosheets as precursors followed by in situ phosphorization. Among the as-synthesized products of different mole ratios of Ni/Co, the NiCo 2 −B−P nanoprisms that integrate the advantages of a hollow structure, an optimal Ni−Co synergistic effect, and a unique Bdoped CoP/Ni 2 P bimetallic phosphide derived from NiCo-LDH nanosheets exhibit excellent hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity in an alkaline solution at 10 mA cm −2 with the lowest overpotential of 78 mV and long-term stability. This study may offer an appropriate structure and compositional design of bimetallic alkaline HER catalysts.

Abstract. The monthly standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) can be used to monitor and assess drought characteristics with 1-month or longer drought duration. Based on data from 1961 to 2018 at 427 meteorological stations across mainland China, we developed a daily SPEI dataset to overcome the shortcoming of the coarse temporal scale of monthly SPEI. Our dataset not only can be used to identify the start and end dates of drought events, but also can be used to investigate the meteorological, agricultural, hydrological, and socioeconomic droughts with a different timescales. In the present study, the SPEI data with 3-month (about 90 d) timescale were taken as a demonstration example to analyze spatial distribution and temporal changes in drought conditions for mainland China. The SPEI data with a 3-month (about 90 d) timescale showed no obvious intensifying trends in terms of severity, duration, and frequency of drought events from 1961 to 2018. Our drought dataset serves as a unique resource with daily resolution to a variety of research communities including meteorology, geography, and natural hazard studies. The daily SPEI dataset developed is free, open, and publicly available from this study. The dataset with daily SPEI is publicly available via the figshare portal (Wang et al., 2020c), with https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.12568280.Highlights. This study analyses the mechanism of oxygen increase during the electroslag remelting (ESR) process and proposes a countermeasure to control oxygen content of electroslag ingots. The results show that when the oxygen in the electrode is high, the oxygen in the ingots decreases after the ESR process. However, when the oxygen in the electrode is low, the oxygen in the ingots increases after the ESR process. Oxygen increase is closely related to the slag system that was used during the process. According to the experiment and the theoretical analysis, the [Al]- [O] reaction is the control reaction, and the oxygen content of the ingots is determined by the Al 2 O 3 activity in the slag pool when Al in the electrode is kept constant. Based on this finding, the new slag system that decreases the oxygen content of the electroslag ingot is designed and it contains the following components: 63-67%CaF 2 , 4-6%Al 2 O 3 , 18-22%CaO, 8-12%RE x O y or 43-47%CaF 2 , 4-6%Al 2 O 3 , 18-22%CaO, 8-12%MgO and 18-22%RE x O y .

Text to speech (TTS) has made rapid progress in both academia and industry in recent years. Some questions naturally arise that whether a TTS system can achieve human-level quality, how to define/judge that quality and how to achieve it. In this paper, we answer these questions by first defining the human-level quality based on the statistical significance of subjective measure and introducing appropriate guidelines to judge it, and then developing a TTS system called NaturalSpeech that achieves human-level quality on a benchmark dataset. Specifically, we leverage a variational autoencoder (VAE) for end-to-end text to waveform generation, with several key modules to enhance the capacity of the prior from text and reduce the complexity of the posterior from speech, including phoneme pre-training, differentiable duration modeling, bidirectional prior/posterior modeling, and a memory mechanism in VAE. Experiment evaluations on popular LJSpeech dataset show that our proposed NaturalSpeech achieves −0.01 CMOS (comparative mean opinion score) to human recordings at the sentence level, with Wilcoxon signed rank test at p-level p 0.05, which demonstrates no statistically significant difference from human recordings for the first time on this dataset.
