Optical resonances of a metallically coated wavechaotic microcavity are investigated. Mode resonances with a lowcontrast quality factor and distinct field patterns are demonstrated. Unlike the resonances in the dielectric chaotic-wave cavity where the refractive escape leads a high optical loss, the resonances in metallically coated cavity hold high quality factors with a low loss induced by metal dissipation. As a potential application, the metallically coated chaotic-wave microcavity could be used for a semiconductor laser source with dense modes lasing and accordingly a low spatial coherent emission.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
