The positively charged layered gadolinium hydroxide nanosheets were produced by exfoliation in formamide and was applied to fabricate highly transparent and highly luminescent Gd(2)O(3) : Eu layers on quartz glass by simple evaporation and subsequent annealing.
Transparent Gd 2 O 3 :Eu Phosphor Layer Derived from Exfoliated Layered Gadolinium Hydroxide Nanosheets. -Gd2(OH)5NO3·nH2O and Gd1.90Eu0.10(OH)5NO3·nH2O are synthesized from stoichiometric amounts of Gd2O3 and Eu2O3 dissolved in a small amount of 10% aq. HNO3 solution (autoclave, 150-170°C, 12 h). Transparent Gd2O3:Eu phosphor layers on quartz glass are obtained by exfoliation of the Eu-doped precursor in formamide at room temperature followed by annealing at 600°C for 5 h in air. Under irradiation with 254 nm UV light, the Gd2O3:Eu coated glasses exhibit uniform bright red luminescence. In this way high-quality phosphor layers can be prepared even on large area substrates which is promising for the fabrication of outdoor display devices. -(LEE, K.-H.; LEE, B.-I.; YOU, J.-H.; BYEON*, S.-H.; Chem.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
