The reaction of CH2OH with 02, NO, and N02 has been studied using pulse radiolysis to generate the radicals and ultraviolet absorption to observe the kinetics. Rate constant values of (0.88 ± 0.02) X 10"11, (2.5 ± 0.02) X 10"", and (2.3 ± 0.4) X 10"" cm3 molecule"1 s'1 have been measured at room temperature and 1 atm pressure for the 02, NO, and N02 reactions, respectively. Absorptions due to long-lived or stable products were observed in the same spectral region. A simple analysis of these observations suggests that formation of an adduct may dominate in the reaction of CH2OH with NO and N02 but that this process accounts for only a minor route in the 02 reaction.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
