O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever e analisar a prevalência de afastamentos entre mulheres trabalhadoras de enfermagem. Trata-se de um estudo não experimental retrospectivo com abordagem quantitativa sobre a saúde da mulher trabalhadora de enfermagem e a prevalência das doenças e /ou agravos em saúde para o afastamento do ambiente laboral. As participantes da pesquisa foram trabalhadoras da equipe de enfermagem de um instituto federal especializado na área de traumatologia e ortopedia após a aprovação do projeto de pesquisa pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa nº do parecer 738.979. Resultados: As participantes do estudo eram mulheres, na faixa etária entre 26 a 66 anos. Convalescência foi a principal causa de afastamento com 12,4%. O sistema do corpo humano mais prejudicado foi o músculo esquelético com 27,8% e os setores mais acometidos às licenças médicas foram a internação com 26% e o centro de terapia intensiva com 18,7%. Conclui-se que os profissionais da enfermagem estão mais propícios a desenvolver doenças músculos esqueléticos por vivenciar condições inadequadas de trabalho constantemente, trabalho repetitivo, manipulação de pesos excessivos, gerando agravos em sua saúde, tanto no aspecto físico quanto psíquico do trabalhador. O estudo mostrou a necessidade do profissional enfermeiro (a) ter um olhar mais atento para as condições de trabalho e realizar rotatividade de tarefas.
