Introducción. En El Salvador, se ha descrito sobre mortalidad materna e infantil, pero no se ha dado una mirada a la atención preconcepcional, la cual forma parte del continuo de la atención, siendo importante para la prevención y manejo del riesgo materno. Objetivo. Identificar brechas de la atención preconcepcional en diferentes contextos a través de búsqueda bibliográfica. Metodología. Revisión sistemática a partir de búsqueda en PUBMED, Scielo, biblioteca virtual en salud (BVS) así como repositorios de universidades nacionales, con palabras de búsqueda “preconcepcional”, “riesgo preconcepcional” y “preconcepcional care”. Estos fueron analizados escogiéndose preferentemente estudios descriptivos, y revisión bibliográfica aplicándose lista de chequeo elaborada a partir de lista de comprobación STROBE. Resultado. 12 documentos de interés, 7 internacionales, 4 tesis nacionales y 1 guía de atención. Principales riesgos preconcepcionales en diferentes contextos en El Salvador: Obesidad, diabetes mellitus tipo 2, hipertensión arterial, infección vías urinarias. Coincidiendo con algunos estudios internacionales en especial con la hipertensión y diabetes mellitus. Conclusión: Una de las brechas es que la atención preconcepcional, en la práctica se enfoca principalmente en el rol reproductivo de la mujer, obviando al hombre dentro de este proceso.
