Bulimia nervosa (BN) é um transtorno alimentar caracterizado pelas recorrências de compulsões alimentares, seguido de métodos compensatórios inadequados para perder peso. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi realizar uma revisão narrativa literária sobre o uso de antidepressivos no tratamento da BN. METODOLOGIA: Trata-se de uma revisão literária narrativa, sendo que a pesquisa bibliográfica da literatura foi realizada nas bases de dados, UpToDate, PubMed e Scielo. RESULTADOS: A fluoxetina 60 mg/dia é o antidepressivo considerado como abordagem padrão para o tratamento da BN, apresentando efeito positivo no tratamento dessa condição na maioria dos estudos analisados. Outros medicamentos antidepressivos, como citalopram, sertralina e a fluvoxamina, também se mostraram eficazes e são considerados tratamento de segunda linha. Efeitos adversos relatados nos estudos incluem insônia, tremor, tonturas, náusea, ansiedade e diminuição da libido. DISCUSSÃO: Fluoxetina é a primeira linha de tratamento para BN, mas existem restrições. Nesses casos, troca-se a medicação pelas de segunda linha. Caso o paciente não obtenha resultados satisfatórios com a primeira e segunda linhas, existe a terceira linha, sendo composta por: antidepressivos tricíclicos, inibidores da monoaminoxidase (IMAO) e moduladores da serotonina. CONCLUSÃO: Conclui-se que a eficácia do uso de antidepressivos para o tratamento de BN é promissora, em especial, a fluoxetina.
