O estudo teve por objetivo geral avaliar se houve impacto relevante na perda estimada com créditos de liquidação duvidosa (PECLD) com a nova regulação contábil, o CPC 48, que modificou a sistemática de apuração, de um modelo pautado em perdas incorridas para outro em perdas esperadas, em companhias abertas classificadas no setor de Consumo Cíclico da B3. Foram realizados testes estatísticos com dados trimestrais do ano anterior à norma, 2017, com os trimestres correspondentes do ano inicial da norma, 2018. Também foram analisados, com as mesmas premissas, a PECLD de empresas auditadas e não auditadas por Big Four e de companhias enquadradas e não enquadradas em níveis diferenciados de governança corporativa da B3. Os testes estatísticos realizados mostram que a PECLD dos trimestres de 2018 foram estatisticamente diferentes dos valores apurados pela sistemática anterior, evidenciando que a mudança parece ter contribuído para refletir melhor cenário. O mesmo foi apurado ao se considerar as companhias auditadas pelas Big Four e que apresentavam classificação em níveis diferenciados de governança. O estudo contribui com as entidades reguladoras e usuários da informação contábil ao mostrar que, na amostra pesquisada, a mudança da prática fazia-se necessária, pois houve alteração relevante nos números da PECLD em comparação ao cenário anterior. O estudo abre caminhos para novas investigações que contemplam essa rubrica contábil como, por exemplo, nas de gerenciamento de resultado, que a utilizam como proxy em alguns de seus modelos.
