As raízes de tal problema não se resumem à mera questão terminológica; pelo contrário, os discursos, as imagens, as leis e tradições japonesas também se dividem entre a fetichização e a total ignorância sobre a existência de mulheres que se relacionam, para além das cenas pornográficas, com outras mulheres em suas vidas sexuais e afetivas.
Este artigo objetiva discutir, a partir da análise do discurso foucaultiana, a interdição dos discursos de lésbicas japonesas. Consideramos que o silêncio é uma ferramenta comunicativa no Japão, levando os japoneses a evitar temas tabu, como a sexualidade. Ademais, utilizamos teóricas como Chalmers e Lebra para ampliar nossas discussões. Dessa forma, fomos capazes de compreender que existe uma postura de silenciamento dos discursos lésbicos e de homogeneização social, dado o caráter coletivista e heteropatriarcal da sociedade japonesa. Assim, constatamos que a suposta homogeneidade da cultura japonesa é inviável, já que leva o não-heterossexual ao ostracismo.
