Objetivou-se analisar os fatores associados à intoxicação em crianças, a partir de casos registrados no Centro de Controle de Intoxicações do Hospital Universitário Regional de Maringá. Estudo exploratório descritivo, com busca retrospectiva em registros de intoxicação em crianças atendidas em 2008. Os resultados evidenciaram como fatores associados à intoxicação infantil o sexo masculino e a faixa etária entre zero e quatro anos; como fator predisponente, a residência, em que presença do adulto no momento do acidente não impediu a ocorrência da intoxicação; e entre os fatores desencadeantes o acesso facilitado a medicamentos e a via de exposição oral. Considerando a intoxicação infantil um agravo evitável, o foco está na prevenção, com orientações sobre acondicionamento de agentes tóxicos, vigilância das famílias com conscientização dos riscos do ambiente doméstico, bem como apoio estatal, com implantação de embalagem de proteção à criança, com tampa inviolável e disponibilização de doses fracionadas para extinguir as "farmácias caseiras".

Regarding youngsters users of crack, it becomes important to examine aspects of family structure that could motivate the use of drugs, on the grounds that this is influenced by the context in which the individual belongs. The objective is to analyze the genogram youngster crack users institutionalized in a therapeutic community. Descriptive research, carried out from May to June 2011 with male crack users, 18-24 years of age. In the period of the survey, the Community had four subjects who met the inclusion criteria. Supported by interviews on a screenplay with questions designed to obtain personal information and use of drugs, ending with the development of the genogram. The youngsters were single, had no children, had a religion, and had not completed high school education. All families were nuclear, regardless of generation. Called one attention the small number of members in the youngster's family, in contrast to their previous generations. The research on crack use and its interface with families should be encouraged once they play a fundamental role in the prevention and treatment of drug use.

SEVERITY OF POISONING BY ILLEGAL SANITIZING ABSTRACT:The present study aimed to analyze poisonings through illegally marketed sanitary products that were reported in the Poison Control Center of the Regional University Hospital in Maringá, Paraná, Brazil. This is a quantitative study using retrospective analysis of epidemiological records of people intoxicated by these agents from January, 2005, to December, 2009. Of the 118 cases reported, 75 (63.5%) occurred in males, 105 (88.9%) required assistance in care units and highly complex emergency room admissions. In 14 (11.8%) cases there was the need for intensive care unit hospitalization, with five deaths registered -all caused by intentional poisoning. The data found demonstrates the severity and lethality of this type of poisoning. We also indicate actions for urgent supervisory, fiscal, and control measures for Brazilian Health Surveillance, as well as measures for consumer education which emphasize the educational role of nursing. LA GRAVEDAD DE LAS INTOXICACIONES POR SANEATES CLANDESTINOS RESUMEN:El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar las intoxicaciones por saneantes comercializados clandestinamente, reportadas en el Centro de Control de Intoxicaciones del Hospital Universitario Regional de Maringá. Es un estudio cuantitativo, con análisis retrospectivo de registros epidemiológicos de personas intoxicadas por estos agentes, en el período de enero de 2005 a diciembre de 2009. De los 118 casos reportados, la mayoría (74-62,7%) se produjeron en varones, 105 (88,9%) necesitaron de asistencia en unidades de atención de emergencia y hospitalización de alta complejidad, en 14 casos (11,8%) requirieron de Cuidados Intensivos, y se reportaron cinco óbitos, todos por intoxicación intencional. Los resultados demuestran la gravedad y la letalidad de este tipo de intoxicación, sugieren la necesidad de medidas urgentes de fiscalización y control de la Vigilancia Sanitaria, así como de medidas para la educación de los consumidores, haciendo hincapié en el papel educativo de la Enfermería.
