Tem como objetivo abordar a relação entre ética profissional, deontologia e organização sindical na Biblioteconomia brasileira. Na metodologia utiliza como coleta de dados a pesquisa bibliográfica e documental. Apresenta conceitos referentes à ética como ciência e de sua importância no âmbito das profissões. Relaciona ética e deontologia, entendendo esta como ciência do dever, responsável de averiguar como surgem e se sustentam as normas orientadoras das classes de profissionais. Evoca elementos históricos do movimento sindical na Inglaterra, sua chegada ao Brasil e início da sindicalização dos bibliotecários brasileiros. Como resultado, destaca a necessidade de ampliar os debates em torno da ética profissional e do amadurecimento da consciência de classe dos bibliotecários, o que poderá repercutir em ações coletivas de maior visibilidade junto à sociedade.
