Das Problem des Magenschleims sowie der pathologischen Ver~nder u n g e n der Schleimabsonderung ist bis jetzt nicht geniigend erforscht. Die Ursache der Mangelhaftigkeit diesbeziiglicher K e n n t n i s s e ist auf den Mangel an einwandfreien q u a n t i t a t i v e n Methoden zur B e s t i m m u n g des Mucins zuriickzufiihren.Im klinischen Betrieb wird die Menge des Schleims im Magensaft haupt-s~chlich nach der Viskosit~t des Magensaftes r e i n visuell gesch~tzt. Dieses Verfahren ist vom physiko-chemischen Standpunkt aus ganz falsch, weft die Viskosit~t des Magenschleims yon der aktuellen Reaktion des Milieus, d. h. vom pH des Magensaftes abh~tngt. Es ergibt sich aus den Untersuchungen von G. Katsch 1 und F. Baltzcr 2 sowie yon Bucher a und yon A . Mahlo und Mulli, 4 dal] die Acidit~t des Magensaftes fiir die Viskosit~t des Mucins ausschlaggebend ist, was sich mit den Grundvorstellungen tier physikalischen Chemie der Eiwcil3kSrper gut in Einklang bringen l~l]t. Deshalb entspricht auch die Strauflsche Methode der Messung des Schleimgehaltes nach tier Filtrationsgeschwindigkeit des Magensaftes nicht den analytischen Erfordernissen. Wenn man noch dazu bedenkt, wie stark die Speichelbeimengung zum Magensaft dessen Viskosit~b beeinflu•t, so is~ das Bediirfnis nach einer einwandfreien chemischen Methode zu wissenschaftliehen Zwecken ver-st~ndlich. Der Vorschlag yon Dienst, 5 der die Menge des Magenmucins nach dem Gehalt an Gesamt-N im Magensaft sch~tzen wollte, hal gar keine Begriindung.
