Published for the first time, this is an image of some of the officers of the Eighth Infantry who were taken as prisoners of war by Texas troops at San Lucas Spring on May 9th, 1861. From left, Lt. James Judson Van Horn; Lt. Royal Thaxter Frank (seated); Brevet Lt. Col. James Voty Bomford, Sixth Infantry, who was on leave traveling with the column when taken; Lt. Zenas Randall Bliss (seated); Lt. William Graham Jones. This picture was probably taken in San Antonio in 1861. Bliss was a prisoner of war in Texas and Virginia until he was exchanged on April 5, 1862.
