A relation to singing folk songs, playing folk instruments, and listening to folk music should be developed from a very early stage in a child's development. The objective of our research survey which included teachers and parents of preschool children was to establish how much time families and kindergarten groups dedicate to singing or listening to folk songs and to playing folk instruments and furthermore, what is the level of interest in folk music between preschool children, their parents, and their teachers. Based on our survey results, teachers should dedicate more time to the singing, playing, and listening to folk music, which should be systematically included in the teaching process, while parents should dedicate more time to playing and singing folk music within the family.
The purpose of the study was to find out the extent to which Slovenian general education teachers follow the principles of a balanced music objectives planning in the prevailing affective, psychomotor and cognitive domains. The research sample involves 372 Slovenian student and current general education teachers who, working in pairs, prepared 186 lesson plans for music education. The research results showed that the majority of the musical objectives planned in this study, pertained to the psychomotor domain, followed by the cognitive objectives and by the least represented objectives of the affective domain.
The aim of the study was to find out which musical genres are young people’s favourite, why they listen to those specific genres and which genres they used to listen to in their childhood together with their parents. The results show that most students‘s favourite genres are pop, rock, RnB and popular folk music. The results confirm that the choice of genres listened to together with parents during childhood affects musical preferences of students.
The purpose of the current study was to investigate whether an experimental programme, based on interdisciplinary interactions between music education and history and the implementation of arts and cultural education objectives, could influence pupils’ interest in Western classical music of the 20th century. The programme was designed on the basis of collaborating with music education and history teachers at two Slovenian primary schools and a Slovenian composer. Classes of pupils, aged fourteen and fifteen, were divided into an experimental and a control group. According to the outcome, the pupils in the experimental group showed a higher level of interest in contemporary classical music after the experiment than their peers in the control group. Furthermore, the pupils in the experimental group reported having listened on their initiative, to more classical compositions after the experiment than the pupils in the control group had.
