Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) is an analytical technique that can provide the structural, physical and chemical information of materials. The EELS spectra can be obtained by combining with TEM at sub-nanometer spatial resolution. However, EELS spectral information can't be obtained easily because in order to interpret EELS spectra, we need to refer to and/or compare many reference data with each other. And in addition to that, we should consider the different experimental variables used to produce each data. Therefore, reliable and easily interpretable EELS standard reference data are needed. Our Electron Energy Loss Data Center (EELDC) has been designated as National Standard Electron Energy Loss Data Center No. 34 to develop EELS standard reference (SR) data and to play a role in dissemination and diffusion of the SR data to users. EELDC has developed and collected EEL SR data for the materials required by major industries and has a total of 82 EEL SR data. Also, we have created an online platform that provides a one-stop-place to help users interpret quickly EELS spectra and get various spectral information. In this paper, we introduce EEL SR data, the homepage of EELDC and how to use them.
: The one of the cathode material, Li(Ni 0.5 Co 0.2 Mn 0.3 )O 2 , was synthesized by the precursor, Ni 0.5 Co 0.2 Mn 0.3 (OH) 2 , from the co-precipitation method and the morphologies of the primary particle of precursors were flake and needle-shape by controlling the precipitation parameters. Identical powder properties, such as particle size, tap density, chemical composition, were obtained by same process of lithiation and heat-treatment. The relation between electrochemical performances of Li(Ni 0.5 Co 0.2 Mn 0.3 )O 2 and the primary particle morphology of precursors was analyzed by SEM, XRD and EELS. In the Li(Ni 0.5 Co 0.2 Mn 0.3 )O 2 cathode from the needleshape precursor, the primary particle size was smaller than that from flake-shape precursor and high Li concentration at grain edge comparing grain center. The cycle and rate performances of the cathode from needle-shape precursor shows superior to those from flake-shape precursor, which might be attributed to low charge-transfer resistance by impedance measurement.
A successful transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis is closely related to the preparation of the TEM specimen and should be followed by the suitable TEM specimen preparation depending on the purpose of analysis and the subject materials. In the case of the Si-based anode material, lithium atoms of formed Li silicide were removed due to ion beam and electron beam during TEM specimen preparation and TEM observation. To overcome the problem, we proposed a new technique to make a TEM specimen without the ion beam damage. In this study, two types of test specimens from the Si-based anode material of Li-ion battery were prepared by respectively adopting the only focused ion beam (FIB) method and the new FIB-ultramicrotome method. TEM analyses of two samples were conducted to compare the Ga ion damage of the test specimen.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
