Pendant le Carême de 1237 þórðr Sturluson, âgé de 72 ans, tomba malade dans sa ferme de Eyrr. Comme il désirait faire un partage de ses biens, il rappela son fils aîné Böðvarr de sa ferme de Staðr, et il lui demanda quels arrangements lui plairaient, « parce qu'il est mon héritier », dit-il. Son fils lui dit de faire ce qu'il voulait et þórðr distribua ses biens en donnant d'abord 48 % à Bôovarr et presque 10% à sa troisième femme, qui ne lui avait pas donné d'enfant. Le reste fut partagé entre les six enfants qu'il avait eus de son ancienne maîtresse þóra, le premier et le troisième fils recevant presque 10 %, tandis que le second et le quatrième ne recevaient que 8 % chacun, et deux filles célibataires 4% seulement. Le troisième fils illégitime, Sturla, devait recevoir la ferme de Eyrr, résidence de þórðr à ce moment-là, alors que l'aîné Bôovarr avait déjà reçu la ferme de Staðr. Il est probable que ces transactions de propriétés s'ajoutaient aux répartitions monétaires que nous venons de mentionner, sans en faire partie. Ayant reçu l'extrême onction, þórðr mourut le 10 avril et fut enterré devant l'église de sa propriété .
